If Verbeek or Bondra had two sons in the league would these same threads be written about them?

1x Rocket (or leading goal scorer as the Rocket wasn't a thing back then)
2x 2nd team all-star
Only Hart finishes are 10, 14, and 22
No team success in the playoffs or regular season

The Hall lets anyone in these days so it wouldn't surprise me if he (and guys like Brind'Amour, Pavelski) get in eventually. All good players, but not great.

As much as I hate to say it someone like Marchand has a much better case ...

To me he’s a weak candidate, but that doesn’t seem to matter. He wouldn’t be the worst inductee of the decade.
My take exactly. He's not quite hall worthy imo but with guys like Charbonneau and Lowe already in then I'm fine with Tkachuk going in too.

What are people's thoughts on Patrik Elias? I think he's very underrated and would put him in ahead of Tkachuk.

Elias was a guy I didn’t use to view as a HOF’er but much like a Tkachuk or Roenick, it’s harder to say they shouldn’t be there when you’re inducting the Carbonneau/Lowe types.

Unfortunately my feelings on most candidates are drifting toward this:

The default answer to the question "should [x] get into the HOF" nowadays is "sure, great, fine, okay, whatever"

I'd agree with you on Elias. Never really thought of him as a hall of famer during his career but I think I was under rating him a bit plus the bar has been lowered with some of the recent inductions.

I would put Leclair in the HHOF before I ever put Keith in. Played in the same era with comparable goalscoring but better overall production.

I think Tkachuk around his peak around 2001 was a better player than either of those two ever were. He was feared I remember from the playoff series like Avs vs Blues......Tkachuk was the forward to look out for.

But yeah that doesn't mean he should be in. He's better than some of the guys in there but we shouldn't be adding guys in just cos other weaker guys are in or you can just keep going and going until you start talking yourself into why a Hall of Very Good player isn't in and then debating why a Hall of Good player isn't in cos a Hall of Very Good player has gotten in.

My thoughts on Elias haven't changed much. His career basically overlapped with the Sedins and Elias and Daniel Sedin largely had the same career in terms of overall production. Daniel was a first ballot HHOFer.

Now, Elias didn't have the peak season that resulted in hardware that Sedin had (Elias obviously had the superior team success which is less meaningful, I think), but their per game numbers are highly comparable with similar bulk numbers.

I get why Sedin is in and Elias is not right now, and I have no problem with it. Those personal accomplishments have to mean something. But ultimately, I'm hard pressed to believe that the difference between a first ballot HOFer and not being a HOFer at all is your peak year was 8 points better or whatever and it resulted in awards. Otherwise, what they actually did on the ice was very similar.

No.

0 cups
O playoff MVP
0 RocketS
0 Hart trophies.

He won literally nothing.

The only argument for him is that the hockey hall of fame is incredibly easy to get into, the bar is so very VERY low.

He's not a Hall of famer but he probably gets in because the bar is so low.
So you feel that a guy who was the best player on a non-elite team can't get into the HOF unless he is the league MVP or led the league in goal scoring?

KT was an elite player IMO, and deserves to be in the HOF.

If Roenick is, he should be.
