Jack Hughes is in his 4th NHL season and now his FO% is 33.3%. You can say that he can improve it, but it’s actually only getting worse from his rookie season when he had 36.1%, 35.4% year after and last year 34.6%. And it’s not like his size is ideal for a C, nor his defensive abilities are above average.

NJ have Hischier with good size, great 2-way abilities and elite FO% for 1C, so Hughes could be a great 1W. What do you think?

You don't move someone who's thriving at center because they can't win faceoffs. He's only taken 102 faceoffs this year, looks like they have Erik Haula take the majority of that line's faceoffs who is at 59%.

Doesn't seem like much of a problem.

Imagine thinking faceoffs are so important as to move one of the best young centers in the league.

Awful take.

No, unequivocally. He’s an incredible center who just isn’t great at face offs, which quite frankly, aren’t that important.

Lol.

Faceoffs are not as important as you seem to think they are.

I think faceoffs are greatly undervalued in this thread so far. Bruins have set plays after offensive zone faceoff wins to catch the other team napping and they generate a good amount of chances and some highlight reel type goals. But with a talent like Hughes, just shelter his weakness and have another guy take the majority of the faceoffs like they have been doing apparently. No need to move him off the spot permanently.

Just need to take the Stutzle approach - his linemates (Giroux and Tkachuk) are both fantastic at draws and can take the important ones.

Draisaitl was taking the majority of faceoffs for McDavid when they were playing on a line together.

It's not anything new, and it's a stupid reason to suggest someone move to wing.

Definitely not. He's demonstrated that he's comfortable and productive actually playing Center. Most of his game is built around speed and handling the puck, like a center.

If you're really concerned, it's not hard to just have a Winger or a second Center out there for critical draws with him. Faceoffs can be important at key times, but there's no rule saying the Center even has to take them. Plenty of players/linemates have switched off like that over the years.

Definitely not. A big part of the Devils strength is being able to roll out Hischier and Hughes on different lines.

But if you want to do the rest of the league a favor, please go ahead.

I think he'd be a better player on the wing if I'm being honest. Similar to Patrick Kane, but he is good at centre too. I just think he can do a lot more on the wing than he does at centre.
