Bartender attempts to pour me a beer. Breaks the tap.

She hands me half a beer, with tons of head. Says she'll "Finish the pour" once she replaces the tap. 10 minutes later, she hands me a shot glass of beer to "top off" my current glass.

Should I have been charged?

Spillage.

Most bars have a spillage amount allotted to them. Smaller bars would have given me the brew for free, but this is a large corporate establishment.

I paid and didn't mention a thing, as I don't really care. I just thought it was a good question.

Ya, they should have given you a free one. Having worKed in a few a bar/ restaurants back in the day that stuff is supposed to be counted as spillage, like when they switch kegs, there's always a little wasted when they run the air out of the lines or finish off the keg.

My heart cries.

Still got my 12 pack at home to work through at least.

You gotta learn how to play that situation. That happened to me once, ONCE. Next time, tell her you'll wait. "Here, take this back." "Oh, you can just keep that." They'll always give you that for free.

PS. You need to work on being more charming.

Manage a bar, NO!

The main reason is because the kegged kicked (which means finished) and that would be the real crap end of the beer. I would not even have given you the glass or else I would said if you want this it's free but I have to replace the keg.

Well, yeah. It's the ass end of the keg so that is why you usually get it for free. It's not even really a question if you know your bartender. I get free beer anyway. :naughty:
