Should goals off skates count? Tristan Jarry doesn’t think so.

15 year old logic

A 15 year old who just threw his controller across the room playing Chel with his brother, who won't stop playing the instant replay over and over. "That goal is bullshit! Look how the puck bounces off three players, and then magically changes direction in midair. This game is broken!"

I think the idea would be that he’s using his stick for leverage or to tie up the defender to make himself immovable, and offering his lower body as a target for deflections.

I’m not sure how much this really happens in game scenarios, but it’s a plausible way to score some goals.
A player who just plants himself in front of the net to just to act as a deflector or a screen doesn't seem like a problem to me.

If the league wanted to put a stop to that, maybe allow interference by the defending team to move said player without having to worry about getting penalized. Or make the crease bigger and make it a no fly zone for attacking players.

yeah well i don't think you should be able to just plant yourself on your knees and have your humongous leg pads cover the bottom half of the net either there tristan, but i don't think you complain about that much

NBA players should have honorable 1v1s in the paint too i guess

maybe when we go to war we should just have muzzle loaders and stand in a line like real honorable men did

A bigger crease would probably be a solution — perhaps a return to the old semicircle, to keep attackers off the posts. Hopefully it wouldn’t come to that. It would only be necessary if players really stopped making hockey plays with their sticks.

Pens fan here.

Jarry is a whiner. Sid has scored tons of goals just like that and i never heard Tj complain about any of those.

I think he is still feeling the Laine wrister to the head couple nights ago.
Nah, Jarry has always been this dumb. Just watch an interview with him. This is what’s going on behind those dead eyes

Honestly he should be more worried about the bad goals he’s letting in than these off the skate plays that end up in the net.

No one is blaming a goalie for not stopping a puck when it goes off a skate. Everyone already understands that these plays happen and they end up in the net. Whether it’s off your own defensemen or an opposing team’s forward.

Jarry has a save % in the 80 percents, he has bigger things to worry about.

Relax, he’s just trying to revive the “legit goal” discourse started by that HF guy last playoffs. *points and laughs*

I suggest we rename non-legit goals as “Jarry goals”. As in: Sid backhands the puck off Malkin’s skate for their 2nd Jarry goal of the night! No one can read an open skate blade quite like Crosby!

I propose a graded goal system:
1 goal: deflects off another player when it was going wide
2 goal credit: deflects in when shot was on target
3 goal credit: beats goalie without any deflection off a skater
4 goal credit: goalie doesn’t even touch the shot
5 goal credit: water bottle popped

Imagine making a product meant to appeal to weirdo goalies. It's debatable whether they add more to the sport than a shooter tutor.
