Should fighting be allowed in IIHF hockey games?

why would you want fighting?
Everyone gets all fired up, emotions run high, creates animosity between teams, the fans love it…all the ingredients to make must watch TV

It’s like people think hockey is in the entertainment business….

LOL. Euros are all peace loving hippies.
You make it sound like peace is a bad thing. Don't know about hippie, but yeah, I don't think neither violence nor war is a treat to watch. I don't get MMA or boxing either, but at least in those sports it's consent from both parts. Being jumped by a goon for playing hockey isn't. But I'm also aware that I'm probably a minority in that opinion on here.

I’m yet to hear a convincing argument why NHL rules on bare knuckle fighting should be adopted in places that have gone on without them.

Most arguments seem to come from an emotional attachment to its prevalence and history in the NHL.

Fighting is allowed in the NHL. Why not to allow in IIHF as well?
Might there be something different about professional play and international tournaments?

Also, in general, in europe we think that hockey is about playing hockey. You can fight in MMA if you want.

Probably not at this tournament and younger.

You'd have a 19 year-old taking on a 16 year-old. Not a big difference in age, but in physical maturity there is.

If the IIHF relaxed a bit on how tightly they call the game when the rough stuff happens these tournies would be some of the best hockey in the World as the NHL puts on a rather bland show now.

Thinking about this objectively, Canada usually sends 18 year olds to this tournament and leaves 16 year olds at home, while other nations may not have the depth to do that, so a rule change like this would disproportionately benefit Canada, who already have a lot of advantages

It literally cannot be full contact.

What's wrong with sports being about the sport in question? You can have all sorts of combat sports if you're looking to watch combat. There's more to life than violence.
Why can it literally not be? Let them hit each other. It is a rule, they are physically capable of body checking each other.

Some brutal takes to start the Jrs. Always fun when the non international fans come along.. call the Euro's soft and act like it is 1984.

I've always given this argument and stand by it. Name the best games you ever saw.. how many fights did it have? For me, that would be Nagano run, 2010 run, 2005 run and 2014 run. Oilers run to game 7 was a lot of fun last season too.

Because most the Best on Best Olympic finals didn't have a fight
Most the greatest World Junior matches didn't either
Most the Stanley Cup finals haven't either

Most of the greatest fights were regular season games. What was the last awesome big fight in the Stanley Cup finals?

Memorial Cup finals? NCAA finals? USHL finals? OHL finals? WHL finals? Q finals?

I just can't think of many when it matters and we are playing for golds and league championships?

Please send me some links.

First one that pops to mind for me is Clark-Mcsorley fight after he took a run at Gilmour in the 93 playoffs.

Different times back then though lol

If a fight breaks out the refs should let the players go at it for a bit to settle the affair but then break the fight up so we can get back to the game before too long, then give them a few minutes in the box to cool off. Then they get free.

To the guy saying if it were real life you’d go to jail: Men mutually deciding to settle their beefs with their fists should be allowed in society in general. In saner times if you insulted a gentleman’s honor you’d have to have a gunfight. So much social ills are because we have the equivalent of an instigator penalty in daily life.

You tell 'em keyboard warrior.
Not a keyboard warrior, I just find it funny we invented a sport and it doesn’t get played by our rule set when played internationally.

I love seeing skilled players fight eachother. Watching Iginla vs Lecavlier in the playoffs when I was a young teen was awesome and stuck with me forever. A scrap in a best of the best game would be fun if it happened. It’s not like teams are going to carry an enforcer here so it’s not a big deal.

The game of football has more than one set of rules between NFL, CFL, NCAA, etc. There's absolutely no requirement for a sport to played under a single set of rules from one league to the next, one country to the next.
