If this was twenty years ago he probably would have made it, but his jingoistic and divisive attitude has aged very badly. He put the final nail in the coffin of his chances with the ugly comments that got him booted off the air.

If people in Canada high on Rock'em Sock'em nostalgia want to honor him, go nuts.

He's been brain dead for about 10-15 years, no. He's a clown, nationalist and his hockey IQ has been getting lower and lower. Just says too much nonsense.

He would think so. But I say he should never be.

All he did was act full of himself and paint his show with nothing but his beliefs. He should've been dropped by CBC in the 90's. All he did was promote hockey culture and dirty hits.

I think what they should replace Coach's Corner with is having a segment on an NHL player or prospect. Based on their hometown, family, life, and talk about how they became the player they are today. But also maybe bring Peter Puck back.

Don Cherry has done more for charities involving First Responders, Wounded Warriors/veterans groups, animal welfare, and many more than any of you holier-than-thou posers. He’s from a different era, one which was far less politically correct, and he deserves to be viewed in that light. It’s become fashionable to bash Cherry and it’s a sad reflection of some people’s need for “validation” by the mob. He loves this country (Canada) undeniably, and deserves respect for what he’s accomplished. Warts and all. As far as I’m concerned, he is Hall worthy and should even be in the Order of Canada.

Yes he should - live in an open closet and annoyed fans could throw eggs and rotten tomatoes at him. Preferrable European fans.

None of these things have anything to do with the Hockey Hall of Fame though.
If Foster Hewitt is in, why not Cherry? Cherry is a former Jack Adams winner to boot. If Harold frickin Ballard is in, and I have to choose who has done more for hockey…..

Seems like an argument for putting Jacques Demers in. More Jack Adams, more Cups with worse teams...

Oh and Ballard could be kicked out without having to be replaced. It's been done in the past.

I actually wouldn’t mind seeing Demers in the Hall. Especially knowing that he did what he did while being functionally illiterate due to an abusive father. Quite remarkable to say the least.

I’d be interested to hear who you think has done more to popularize hockey over the last 40 years than Cherry.

And Ballard is in, and I don’t see him coming out. Woulda, shoulda, coulda.

What achievements? He was a mediocre coach at best, a terrible, xenophobic broadcaster who lost touch with the game a decade before being fired and he's an arrogant blow hard.
Achievements:
-Jack Adams award for NHL coach of the year

-Dominion Command Honorary Life Member of the Royal Canadian Legion in recognition of "his longstanding and unswerving support of... Canadians in uniform.”

-Canadian Forces Medallion for Dinstuinguised Service recipient

- has a star on Canada’s Walk of Fame

-had a starring role on Hockey Night in Canada for decades, had his own TV And Radio Show “Don Cherrys Grapevine.”

-had his own podcast in his 80s.

He’s accomplished a lot more in his life than I ever will, and I’d bet more than you too.

To be fair, he is a blowhard.

In my opinion he should be in. Name a more popular or iconic hockey media personality all time... That's right, you can't. And he is a Jack Adams winner.

Whether you like it or not, Don Cherry is a pop culture icon synonymous with Canadian hockey. You don't have to agree with everything he said in his career( I don't) to appreciate that. The man has done a lot to promote Canadian hockey at all levels. In my opinion he should definitely be in as a builder.

Like him or hate him, it's obvious he's been politically blacklisted in some form. He was literally voted #7 greatest Canadian in a CBC open vote. He obviously touched a nerve with people and is responsible as anyone for the growth of hockey during his time on the air. His strenuous advocation towards more strict laws against cruelty to animals has been almost completely wiped off the record for some reason.

Won the memorial cup in 1953.

Won the Calder cup 4 times during the original 6 era and voted into the AHL hall of fame.

Looking at his overall record, especially his broadcast career, it may well be one of the greatest snubs in history to leave him out.
