Should Cronin be fired? Yay or Nay?

I think we're only just barely entering the "stagnate" territory. Players are going to have slumps and you have to let them (and the coaches try to help them) work through it. One bad year (Cronin's first year) isn't a major concern. Then there were signs of improvement during this season so I think that bought Cronin some grace. But now it's looking like that improvement was a mirage.

As a subjective fan that's watching every game I want Cronin gone ASAP but I think a more objective, patient third party wouldn't fault Verbeek for giving him a second chance.

There was a short stretch this year and last where it really felt like they were going to turn a corner, but it's not going to happen like that, where one day we're just suddenly better. The fact that it did happen is a better sign than we're giving it credit for, but it's just SOO hard to believe. I'm resigned to let this season play out, but right now most players are getting on my last nerve. There's some games that were there to be had, but they seem to be great at being just dumb enough to screw it up every time. Zegras back last game seemed to magnify this, in that he was indeed the only guy on the ice with a functioning brain.

Been watching hockey for over 50 years, got a Ducks mini plan in 2005, and got season tickets in 2016. Lack of development of the Ducks' young forwards over the past season and a half is the primary reason I want Cronin gone, and Silf's comments are the last straw. 7 seasons without making the playoffs is too long, and I sure as hell don't want to wait another 7. It's possible Verbeek is the problem, or the players the Ducks have taken with their high picks aren't as good as we think they are, but the quickest way to find out is to replace Cronin with a competent NHL coach. Although I'm about the same age as him, I was part of a very loud crowd in my college days at Cornell, still have a strong, loud voice, and will try to get a "Fire Cronin" chant going from the upper deck tonight. Please help if you're there and agree.

You want him fired ASAP? Is there a coach available right now, that you'd be comfortable with going forward? You wouldn't want to wait and see who becomes available first? I'd 100/100 rather see Cronin run the bench the rest of the year than anyone else who's currently behind it as interim. If you just plan to chant it for the next 35 games to get your point across, then that is a little strange. I'm all for firing your shot, but just know your target.

Can someone point out other head coaches of rebuilding teams within the last 10 years where a coach didn't last a full 2 seasons and wasn't replaced due to either a GM change in the middle of their tenure or the coach losing their job for off ice reasons?

I'd 100/100 rather see Cronin run the bench the rest of the year than anyone else who's currently behind it as interim. I'd 100/100 rather see Thompson appointed as interim and see Cronin fired ASAP. Between all the I don't knows, between the stats that evidence of broken this team is at both offense and defense, between the laughable admission that he can't change the formula to the offense because it would compromise our defensive structure, between the admissions from the players that they're not cohesive with each other, behind the percolating signs that Cronin doesn't have the respect of his players, but most importantly the stats that evidence clearly that our kids are regressing in this crucial development window, it's all unacceptable. People get fired for less at normal jobs.

Firing Cronin now would at least send a message to the players, the remaining staff and the fans that what has been going on will no longer be tolerated and change is coming. It will get Cronin's defective messaging out of the locker room and it may help start to remediate the current culture of losing. It's not guaranteed but the move would give Thompson a chance to try to earn a permanent spot as head coach if he's motivated enough. I'd rather roll the dice that it's either more of the same under Thompson or things might even marginally improve rather than continue to see this f***ing idiot running the team's bench and f***ing up our youth core's development which is or should be priority number 1. Unfortunately I don't think Verbeek really sees or really cares how bad that aspect has gotten.

Fair enough lol. Ultimately people can feel however they want about this topic. I just don't see the benefit in affirming that what has been going on is in any level acceptable or tolerable when the option to, if nothing else, send a message by firing Cronin is available. This is a team heading in the wrong direction and something needs to change. Urgently.

For me that comment from Cronin kind of solidifies the idea that he's attached to the classic idea of 2 scoring lines, a 3rd checking line and a 4th energy line. I think when he's calling McTavish a 3rd liner he's calling him a checking player with offense. Of our players he may be one of the best suited for checking other teams lines. I think it also sheds a little light on the roster decisions.
