Right, so again, the smaller leagues can be excused because they're small. The big three can be excused because of all the revenue they have.

The NHL is the only special little snowflake that has high cost and low revenue.
Baseball played a 60-game season. Their players had pro-rated salaries--something the NHL hasn't asked for.

Why would NHL teams be much more dependent on gate revenue? Which part of "MLS has a worse tv deal" is not registering?

The bigger leagues don't have the same problem because they're bigger. The smaller leagues don't have the same problem because they're smaller. Always an excuse.

The f***ing NWHL has a start date. They have no gate AND no television.

Owners in leagues like NFL and MLB have more flexibility financially. Team options and non-guaranteed contracts, they can cut bait and save boatloads of money. I know you're a baseball guy, see what's going on in MLB, with all these good players' options not getting picked up or being extended qualifying offers or contracts, and owners saving millions and millions of dollars. NHL owners aren't afforded that.

The NWHL? Lol. That's like operating a lemonade stand compared to the NHL. No offense to the ladies, wish them the best.

You failing to understand or acknowledge these important differences doesn't make them 'excuses'.

You're giving me a different reason for each league why every other league can work through this and the NHL can't.

That's what excuses are.

I don't care either way. It doesn't really affect him and his NHL prep, tbh.

Would be fun to get drunk and watch him clown some fools, however.

I think he should go since there is no other hockey for him to play but at the same time i understand with the pandemic if they wanna avoid all that. Can't wait for this tourney.

I can't imagine where he'd be going that would escape the pandemic-related worries.

If this is a situation where laf wanted to play but the rangers didn’t let him go to protect an asset shame on them , if it’s mutual and laf didn’t wanna go I’m ok

No development value was lost, so this is fine.

He was always better off training for the NHL season, whenever that may be.

Look, for selfish reasons, I wanted him to go. Rooting for a top top prospect at the WJC for once would have been amazing. But I get it and won't lose sleep over it

Out of curiosity, I decided to do some research. Here's a list of 1st overall picks to play in the WJC in their D+1 season:

*Yakupov & Ovechkin played due to a lockout, everyone else had not signed their ELC yet.

On a related (unsurprising) note:

Are they not going to let Schneider play either???!
