i have internet/cable from Bell and get CraveTV included with HBO and the Movie Network. i don't have any experience with Shomi or Netflix, but Crave isn't too too bad. there's a lot of older HBO stuff like The Wire and Curb Your Enthusiasm, and all the Seinfeld and Cheers episodes (my two favorite sitcom series of all time) ...and all the South Park stuff. there's seems to be a lot of decent content anyway. i was kinda disappointed in the lack of feature films, but the Movie Network (and Movie Network Encore) make up for it with a ton of flix on demand.

too bad CraveTV doesn't have Game of Thrones on there yet. i would assume that'd help make it more appealing. hopefully it keeps improving anyway. i don't want Netflix to be the only kid on the block.

I think Crave will be fine given the Showtime and HBO catalogues.

While I won't really miss Shomi, it did give me the opportunity to watch all of The League, and I should be all caught up on It's Always Sunny before it shuts down, so I'm thankful for that. I can access it on my cable box, so I'v never had the lag issues.

Hopefully Netflix is all over this and buys the rights to everything Shomi owned, but I doubt Rogers and Shaw will play ball.

 Honestly, my experience with it. Forcing myself to watch more episodes a night so I can finish it all before it shuts down. I'm almost done season 5.

I loved the show for the first few seasons. It gets worse later on, but is still enjoyable. It's an entirely different show in the last season, though.

I mean, if you watched it all, you may as well finish it, but it's not a satisfying ending at all.

Crave will be fine because it has good content and it's cheap. Only $4/month. Shomi was expensive for what you got.

Wow, $4 a month? I saw on their page Shomi was like $8.99. Also, when did Netflix have tiers? Was it always like that? You gotta pay like $13.00 for HD now?

It starts to decline but still has its moments. But the last season is basically a Draft Kings commercial.

Basically this, though I thought Season 6 was pretty good. If they hadn't written season 7 knowing it was the last, it may have been better actually. But the last 15 minutes, I thought, were hilarious and made up for everything.

The creators apparently aren't done with it, sounds like they want to do a season 8 on streaming platform.

From what I heard, shomi was supposed to be a joint property of the major Canadian communication companies. But by the time it got to launch, large companies like bell had already bailed.

Should the large companies have pooled together for one platform? I don't know, but I wonder how crave is doing from a financial performance standpoint/subscriber standpoint. I can't recall knowing anyone with a crave subscription tbh.

I did the free trial for Shomi, there just wasn't anything worth sticking around for. Mostly average, run of the mill network comedies.

I had CraveTV when I was with Bell and at least it had HBO, Showtime and Seinfeld. And it was cheaper. So if I had to pick one I would've gone with Crave.

Shomi and CraveTV combined didn't even have 700,000 subscribers compared to the over 5-million Canadian subscribers to Netflix.

Shomi and CraveTV seem like attempts at cashgrabs by the big telecoms. It's not that surprising they're both struggling and one has gone under.

The bigwigs are responsible for this miscalculation and failure.

Netflix was around first and their top guys have a very good idea of what they're doing and what it takes for them to grow.

CraveTV basically 'stole' a lot of big shows from HBO On Demand and TMN On Demand so I'd imagine it has some appeal. There are some shows I watch on there and I get it free with my package so whatever... it was annoying at first but now that I know where to find stuff it's not that big of a deal anymore.

Crave will survive only because Bell has more content locked into its platform than Rogers did, and I think Bell is far too stubborn to surrender the Canadian streaming space to Netflix.

CraveTV having the HBO and Showtime collections pretty much means that CraveTV isn't a cash grab. I'd pay for that content if I hadn't already seen most of HBO and Showtime's collections. If Netflix ever got their hands on any HBO rights, it'd be game over though.

CraveTV's platform is complete garbage, but I really like their content selection. My one big complaint is that they only have the HBO back catalogue and don't show any shows that currently air. That is a clear cash grab to encourage people to subscribe to their cable/satellite packages.
