The 4th line was awful but the Devils aren't going to sign MacDermid only to scratch him against the Islanders. They may as well waive him at that point.
Tatar was 9-3 CF. Mac was 7-4.

It's the old "control play only to have breakdowns lead to goals against" theme but I wouldn't say they were awful.

Obviously it's not an ideal line. But that will happen when 2 of the guys on that line to start the season are out injured.

Since @My3Sons will be traveling tomorrow I made a unique team line-up graphic for his next GDT (cause we’re gonna win tonight baby!).

And, no, I’m not a professional graphic designer in case anyone was wondering.
I can’t believe you grabbed all those messages. That’s so funny. I’ll be at the airport in an hour and if nobody has a GDT I can put up something simple if me skipping will screw up the karma .

I think you must proceed now. Even small morsels from the table of wisdom will bear some fruit for us younger generation.

He was the one at fault on the first goal.

I don't remember the 2nd one.

I’m not nitpicking the goals themselves when I say this, more so that I think he will be dragged down by the other two thirds of that line to begin with.

I think he’s capable of playing more minutes, but right now there isn’t anything to change with the top 9. Saddling him with an injury fill in and a goon will naturally reduce his offensive capabilities. And it will likely lead to more time spent in the defensive zone and more confusion. Finger pointing direct responsibilities of the goal or not, he’s a much better player than the other two.

yes he absolutely is. It isn't even close.
Strongly disagree.

felt a lot like the Calgary game at times. We were seemingly content to play low event close checking hockey with them, which is what they are best at.

Then when we got down 2 and Cotter fights to the net front to make that inside dish to Mercer, I ask myself where was that determination to fight to the inside the rest of the game. My point being maybe it’s not a mistake to play dump and chase with them, so much as we have to play the forecheck game harder and with more determination than we are doing. Learning curve maybe ? But then again the Cotter play wasn’t really a dump in, but he skated it in.

Our first man in on the forecheck was getting there too late all night.
I think it was a mistake to play that way against them. We can play as hard as we want but they’re always gonna beat us in that type of game.

The idea that I offer anything g wise here is really funny.

Remember when there was mass panic over Tatar being stapled to Nico’s line and Jack/Bratt getting Timo shoehorned on their line? It’s a long season lol

I wonder what happened to that one user who brought it up virtually every post of theirs. Haven’t seen them around since around the line changes lol

Siegs is a better skater than both Dillon and Dougie. Skating however is not the most important factor considering Siegs was skating his best in his worst year. The bigger issue with Dillon being paired with Dougie is his aggression combined with his feet BUT I was willing to give them a run as the 3rd pair and they have been better together since then. In the 8 games since Luke-Pesce came into the lineup and Dillon-Dougie have been relegated to the 3rd pair they're up 7-4 in goals together with a 54% xG.

Splitting up Siegs-Kovy is f***ing stupid. It's an ELITE pair. They're up 15-6 in goals together on the ice with a 59% xG. That's incredible. They've also been even better recently since Luke-Pesce have come back. They're up 8-3 with a 65% xG in those 8 games. Luke-Pesce are 1-5 in goals together and under water in xG% at 49%. Dillon-Dougie are at least even in goals at 16-16 together on the year with a 54% xG. Dougie's been a disaster away from Dillon. Down 0-4 in goals with a 39% xG.

If you're making changes it should be Luke-Dougie and Dillon-Pesce. Luke's been better as a defender this year and has the feet to make up for his aggression next to Dougie. Luke's offense is completely nonexistent this year. He has 1 pt and has only been on for 1 5v5 goal through 8 games. He's been on for only 2.04 xGF/60 which is the 2nd lowest of the D only above Nemec. I don't give a shit about any defensive concerns about that pair because it's basically impossible for Dougie to be worse defensively than he has been and this could help get Luke going offensively.

He’s not specifically at fault for the first one - Tatar and Dowling were supposed to switch there as Tatar started to head high as Dowling was in the slot to defend. It’s a miss communication, but it’s more Dowlings than his.

I mean, I am not that concerned about it now, but they absolutely should be looking to make a move for the 4th line as we get closer to the deadline. It sounds like Lazar won't be out for the year, but still. Dowling has looked okay, but he obviously wouldn't be someone I would want to rely on in the playoffs if need be
