Jack is 100000% back. That's like 3 games in a row he looks dominating.

He was good in the Edmonton game but idk about dominating.

Yes, he has. He was an elite offensive defenseman his entire career which offset it. It's looking really bad now because his offense is not the same.

It's looking really bad right now because he's never been this bad defensively. He would have his struggles but would at least be competent enough to not be a big drag at that end. Even peak Dougie offensively right now would be a net negative player with how awful he's been defensively. He's been one of the worst players defensively in the league.

Despite the comeback and win I did not like how we played at all. Mainly really poor coaching/preparation IMO.

Islanders entire team is built to win games along the boards. It was insane how often we were trying to dump it in on a rim and forecheck or rim it for a cycle in the ozone. 90% of the time the islanders were easily winning those pucks and breaking out.

They play an incredibly simple game and only way that islanders team is gonna win games is by teams not having skill or by skilled teams like us being too stupid. We should have been skating circles around them just by playing through our skating and skill and making plays. Game like that dumps should either be very strategic or an absolute last resort.

We willingly played their game for some reason and I can’t remember being this annoyed after a win before.
I don’t think it was poor prep. They had good jump in the first. They got sloppy in the 2nd with their passing and got caught on some long shifts with the long change.

I mean the OT assist was pretty nice but the other ones it's not like they're good plays or anything.
Never been a big Dougie supporter, but it's hard to argue with points. If somehow he is always involved when goals get scored, at some point it can't all be attributed to luck.

Would I like him to play better defense? Yea absolutely. But it's really hard to shit on him game after game when he seems to always be involved in us scoring goals.

He has 55 shots this year, generating on ice numbers of 3.8 goals/60 5v5 and 3.5 xGoals/60 5v5, while QBing a 30+% power play.

His offense is still elite, he's just shooting 1.8% so far.

None of the stats suggest this to be the case

If he’s a disaster defensively then why doesn’t he give up goals at a disaster rate?

Because he's not a goalie? Or are you talking about a different stat

It's looking really bad right now because he's never been this bad defensively.

I do think part of that is the DiIlon pairing. But, individually, he's never been good at defense...at all

No teams just stumble into elite levels of offense when he's on the ice consistently and without fail.

No, I'm not serious.

when he’s on the ice, the team gives up goals and chances against at roughly the teams average rate. He’s not an asset defensively, but he’s not killing you out there.

I don’t mean poor prep in the sense that the players weren’t ready. That’s why I said coaching. Keefe did not have these guys playing the way they should’ve strategically against the islanders. We played right into their game. Only reason is was close and we almost lost. Only reason Islanders will win games against skilled much more talented teams.

It's only 55 minutes but he's been outscored 4-0 with a 39% xG away from Dillon. Dillon on the other hand in 57 minutes away from Dougie is up 2-1 in goals with a 57% xG. They're even in goals together 16-16 with a 54% xG. They might exacerbate each others deficiencies but Dougie is the bigger problem

I think/hope Keefe is just plowing the Devils through being a chip and chase team on offense and conceding the neutral zone because he wants them to learn how to play the game in different ways.

Otherwise it doesn’t make a ton of sense that the Devils aren’t trying to win the games in the neutral zone when they have some fantastic neutral zone players. I still hope they’ll shift things around once Keefe thinks the teams has learned what it needs.

Fair enough, I'm not going to go crazy defending him, because I never really have, but I'm also not just going to ignore something to make sure my initial thoughts stay intact.

The Islanders aren’t a bad 5v5 team. They are right in the middle of the league in terms of xG% on the plus side of 50%. They’ve been done in this year by special teams and shooting percentage.
