Proposal: Shattenkirk to Boston

Out of curiousity. Bruins fans, assuming the following (hypothetically)...

- St Louis has interest in Chara
- St Louis has cap space to fit Chara in

...what are the odds that Sweeney would be willing to trade Chara or Chara plus to get Shattenkirk or Shattenkirk plus? Or would it only make sense to add Shattenkirk if the Bruins also keep Chara?

I was thinking the Bruins would be trying to get younger and take a long term approach. I don't know about that anymore, seeing as they're actually doing well.

As another poster noted, the Bruins are now weaker on Left D than they are on the Right, so moving Chara would leave Krug as our top left D, and adding Shattenkirk just clogs things up on the right side for prospects who will be ready in the next year or two. . That's not a good way to look toward the future.

Add to all this, the pleasant surprise that is Brandon Carlo and the NEED to add another defenseman is significantly lessened. None of this should take away from the talent of Shattenkirk, I just think moving him for Chara doesn't serve the Bruins all that well into the future.
