Did you know that Sharp will be 35 y/o and UFA? Even if Sharp had more term left, I wouldn't do that.

Gagne is not an Ottawa top prospect (yet). Add Chlapik and Dahlen to that list instead. Englund and Jaros too.

Also Bailey is not a "younger roster/fringe guy", he's strictly an AHL player. Dzingel is not fringe anymore, Lazar has never been. Paul is a prospect who needs more pro experience. I wouldn't trade Dzingel for an older soon-to-be-UFA player. Paul or Lazar maybe.
One of Dzingel/Lazar will need to be left unprotected in the expansion draft - so yeah - fringe ... and I did say "the right deal" :)

Think Sharp takes a discount next year and comes back to Chicago.

Don't know why anybody trades for him.

fair, but that was a terrible trade.

didnt Sharp go for Daley and Garbutt a year ago?

As a hawks fan, the sharp for Daley and Garbutt trade was a lot worse than Dano and 1st for Ladd IMO. Neither Daley or Garbutt meshed with Q (more his fault with Garbutt, Daley just had no intention of playing the blackhawks system). If the sens are trading for sharp during the season (like ladd was dealt) it will be a 1st+decent prospect like it is for nearly every rental for the last while. Sharp was dealt as a cap dump for daley and garbutt.

Because he is a defensively responsible top 6 winger who is a UFA at the end of the year. If Dallas is out of it by the dead line he is the perfect pick up for a contender wanting to make a cup run

Ottawa would offer up Ceci, a 2017 2nd and Zach Smith.

Um no we most definitely would not

Ya, I'd doubt that. Don't think the Brassard for Zib was all that of strong trade for Ottawa tbh. Don't see how Sharp fits the Senators plans. First there is Sharp's age. And 2nd, don't think Ottawa is a contender on the verge of a deep playoff run.

Okay I see your point. Fringe means for the protected list.

What does the Brassard trade has anything to do with here?

And for the record, Brassard will cost a whooping 10 millions for 3 full years, and he averaged 60 pts per season the last 2 years. For a budget team like Ottawa (where the $ counts, not the cap hit), this is invaluable. Zibanejad will cost a lot more starting next year. The 2nd is because Brassard was the better offensive and defensive player, also more proven.
