Post-Game Talk: Sharks win Game 1 3-2 in OT (SJ up 1-0)

Once the pain goes away, it's not too bad. It's annoying but it's not something that really stays with you. The awkwardness that comes with eating will stick around but that's more of an inconvenience he's knowingly putting up with to be a contributor. They wouldn't make him.

Are you sure about that though? Is it going to go away? It was my impression that the roof of his mouth is kind of shattered.

I'm not saying he shouldn't play, and to the guy below you, yes of course he was given the option to do the surgery immediately I'm sure, but athletes don't really have a choice.

I'm glad he's out there, and I'm sure he is too, but it's pretty constantly in the back of my mind that the bottom half of his face is in shambles.

It did with me. It may be different with him. The pain will go away or at the very least be a dull manageable thing until the procedure is done to repair it. It'll be a sensitive area obviously but even that would go away after a while if it's not messed with.

Thornton will be injured for the duration of these playoffs I am guessing. I am sure he will play eventually but will he be effective at all? Depending on how the playoffs go with the Sharks it will greatly affect his future on the team.

I see this sentiment a lot. I have a hard time thinking anything dictates his future to the team other than Joe's own wishes. If he wants to play here, he will. He has said that time and time again that he doesn't want to leave. I realize that an athletes word's are not always ringing endorsements, but I do believe Thornton in this case.

Hmm. Well that is good to hear then. Hopefully it is the same for him.

According to NHL Tonight, the first goal by Klefbom went off Schlemko's skate and Jones shouldnt be blamed

It's very obvious on the replay. Not sure why people are down on Jones on that goal when it was a teammate deflection just outside the crease.

I normally give passes on deflections but in this case, it doesn't change that if he's properly positioned and in his butterfly, that deflection doesn't go in.

Honest question: does anyone else feel like it's kind of cruel to make Couture continue living with broken teeth and a shredded palate for potentially another two months? I know he's game and wouldn't let him teammates down, but damn...what a horrific situation to be in.

You are right.

We should put him out of his misery. :|

I can't remember 100% for sure but I looked like the shot was going wide until it was deflected. So maybe he was staying ready to slid over... but who knows what was going on in his head

He wouldn't want it any other way. He obviously doesn't like the ****** situation he is in, but he is not somebody I particularly feel bad for. He is an NHL all star who made the Stanley Cup final and 6 million dollars last year and is on track to make another 6 million. Playing with injuries comes with the territory. I don't think anybody would stop him if he wanted to sit out, but I promise you he wants to play.

He's a gamer and he will be fine. I would gladly let you knock all my teeth out with a puck for a 6 million dollar salary and a chance to play for the Stanley cup.

Is it just me or am I the only one who thought Jones played well? granted the Klefbom's goal should've been stopped but I didn't think he had much chance on Lucic's goal. He was perfectly screened there.

Also, I would like to see what Meier can do on the PP. Granted he hasn't had much practice there, but I think he can replace Boedker for a little bit.

EDIT: just realized everyone else above me just made my point. If you slow it down on the replay it's clearly a pass that gets deflected. Should he have had it? Sure...but it's not nearly as bad as everyone indicated when it happened.

I feel like he'd have no problem being like this while only eating apple sauce and baby food till christmas if it meant winning a cup.

Holy ****, this. Immediately after that goal was scored and they showed the replay, I saw it hit Schlemko's skate. But Baker just rambled on about how it was an easy goal and blah blah.

I got pretty ****ing annoyed at Baker for not actually watching the damn replay. Both Baker and Hahn have some **** eyesight. They need to start wearing glasses if they're not wearing contacts.

I'm not really buying all the "playoff jitters" excuses coming from the Oilers side right now. Especially seeing how the Leafs aren't getting their faces caved in right now against a team that's probably way better than we are.

I dont either, jitters at the beginning of the game sure, but you don't get playoff jitters when you're up 2-0 going into the second. They just got flatout outplayed. We'll see if the sharks can dominate like that again this series.

Demoralized is what they are. Hopefully.

Baker also repeatedly said it it went far post past Jones' "toe". He's just a bad commentator. I wish we could hear Burke and Johnson.
