Post-Game Talk: Sharks vs. Avalanche Game 3 - Sharks win 4-2!

So last night, heard the term "intentional offsides", I was like what the heck is that? Is that some made up rule?

Looked it up and sure as molasses it was a rule. And it only happens very rarely.

However how in the heck did the announce crew know exactly what it was before the ref indicated what it was?

Man let's get more rules to make the Sharks lose.

Story of our lives!

I didn't even think it was an intentional offside. Karlsson tried to hold the line and didn't, and somehow they deemed that intentional.

I gotta admit, I'm shocked my Martin Jones turn around, and I want to hear what went on behind the scenes there... but I'm just hoping he isn't getting our hopes built up only to blow it.

Also, given our roster, we absolutely should beat the Avs. We also should beat St Louis or Dallas. We should have a pretty gift wrapped run to the finals... I keep reminding myself of that everytime they start playing like crap...

I am retrospectively glad the powers that be trusted the process and didn't spend a bunch of assets at the TDL to get another goalie.

Nothing is written, nothing is a given. Knowing our luck some random shit will happen and we'll get a string of injuries, or suspensions, or half our line-up will mysteriously forget how to play hockey. If they want to win they have to push like they did to beat Vegas all the way to the cup. I'm reminded of the Kings the year they reverse swept us. After that horrible event, which for them was a huge confidence booster, they said there was no way they were losing and went on to the cup. The Sharks need to use the Vegas series the same way and it seems like they are. If they can pull it off the Pavelski injury and ensuing major will be the defining moment of our franchise.

He is practicing today I guess so thats awesome. Hopefully the boys can end this in 5 but if not maybe he plays in game 6?

The announcers knew by where the linesman was pointing. Intentional offsides have the faceoff in the defensive zone of the offending team.

I didn't even think it was an intentional offside. Karlsson tried to hold the line and didn't, and somehow they deemed that intentional.

They deemed it intentional because he knew it popped out and the puck popped back in with the linesman's hand up for delayed offsides and he touched the puck anyways to prevent a rush against. And for Karlsson in that spot, it was the right choice to make because he couldn't just back off that and let Colorado take the puck from there with forwards deep in the attacking zone.

I heard Pierre make the point that they should but then you hear Keith Jones say the opposite in the post-game. I just think the whole concept, while containing a kernel of truth to it, is overstated for single game scenarios.

Ah, thanks. Didn't see the post-game, so I missed an experienced answer from Jones.

I think it's significant. I don't think they get acclimated in a game or two. But this is true in every sport and just part of the home-court advantage of Denver teams. Just like the Packers have the January Snow, or the Diamondbacks have the desert heat, the Yanks have batters that hit into that porch, or the Seahawks have the stadium acoustics to make teams deaf.

It may be different/more significant than other teams for Denver, but it's not unprecedented and IMO not "unfair".

Yeah, it's pretty much natural doping. Slight advantage but not unfair.

And you don't know how confused I was for a second. Thought PF was quoting himself.

I gotta say, while I'm not thrilled with last night's result, I'm pretty impressed with the Sharks. I just can't manufacture the kind of grinding hate for San Jose that I do with other clubs. There's no histrionics with the Sharks, no (OK, not much) "message sending" gamesmanship or idiotic fight baiting. Just tough, physical play. Burns is an animal. Reminds me of the Avs Adam Foote from 20 years ago.

Hope the Avalanche can pull their heads out and play better tomorrow. But if it doesn't go according to plan, I'll pull for the Sharkies going forward.

I'm not arguing its fairness. I think that argument is pointless. I just don't think it plays much of a part in how teams play there against them. Like yeah it exists but I don't buy the idea that the Avs playing and training there gives them any real advantage beyond the standard home ice advantage every team benefits from. Like the actual location of where they play and the environment surrounding it doesn't have a meaningful impact on the results of the games there.

I had faith that Jones, Vlasic, Braun, and Logan would all get their **** together at a certain point in the playoffs. Wasn't looking good for the former but that trust in him has finally paid off. Helps that the team is playing better D in front of him.

I don't like how the Sharks sat on a 2 goal lead. They oughta knock that **** off.

and that Kane breakaway chance was very Marleau-like.
Patty would have shot wide missing the net completely.:sarcasm::laugh:

Like I said previously, Jones doesn't know what he's talking about. There is real science behind it and watching teams go into Denver and play sluggishly for the last 40 years I'm a firm believer that it's not overstated in the slightest. Watching the Sharks run out of gas last night was just another in a long line of examples. I believe it's also worse for bigger guys (Offensive and defensive linemen) which probably didn't help Burns.

Hmm. Maybe. I’ve been there and it messes with me. But also I am not a professional athlete. So yeah. Maybe :)
