Depends. Sudbury bought at the deadline, so it certainly seems like they're trying to push for a long playoff stretch. I'm not convinced they'll win a single playoff game, though.

Also depends on the Cuda, I guess. Sudbury's last regular season game is 3/23, and SJ's is 4/20. If the Cuda are in a tight playoff race, do you want to add a teenage winger who isn't exactly super responsible in his own zone?
Right now, the wingers in the AHL are Robins, Bailey, Bordeleau, Cardwell, Houle, Vincent, Coe, and Sabourin. Goose is out. I think there’s room there for Musty on a bit of a pro audition even if they’re needing wins for a playoff spot. Maybe not every game but at least one for the experience.

He'd probably rotate in with the guys like Coe, Bailey, etc. If he can get even a few AHL reps for the exposure to pro hockey, I think it's worth it.

With the benefit of hindsight, we probably should’ve just kept Musty in the NHL and (more or less) given him the Smith treatment this year, right?
I don't think so. As much as Smith isn't quite ready, Musty I think would be struggling to play a pro game even in AHL right now. He looked extremely not ready at camp/preseason. Less maturity, not as smart a hockey mind as Smith.

It's exactly as we all predicted. The talent level in the OHL is just too low to challenge Musty and Sudbury isn't an environment that keeps forwards accountable for their own end. He put up four points basically in his sleep today. Sudbury won 10-6 and celebrated about it.

I want to see him start in the Cuda's middle-six next year and work his way up. No call-ups until he really and truly Gets It.

I love the player, I still think his upside is crazy. I just don't think he's on the fast track and we should be more patient.
Wolves fan here, they're a very different team defensively then last year with a new coach. They've been in the top 5 teams most of the season in terms of limiting GAs; this last game was an exception rather than the rule.

I think we can all see the common denominator... 😂

Lot could change between now and then, but right now Robins, Bordeleau, Cardwell, Houle, Vincent should be in the AHL lineup every night. Gushchin should also be back soon, his injury is allegedly a short-term one. I would expect a couple of Cuda guys to get callups once we move guys out at the deadline regardless.

Sabourin hasn't really gotten going offensively, but is still valuable as our enforcer. Bailey is a beast when he's playing well. But he's only playing well about 25% of the time this season. If we had our full compliment of forwards, Coe would probably be in and out of the lineup already.

So yes, that was a lot of words to say "I agree." I think Musty could at least occasionally slot into the middle six in the last month before the playoffs.

Haven’t they Cuda been running 11F and 7D because they don’t have enough quality bodies at F. This is before 2 will be called up after the deadline. I think Musty will absolutely get AHL games if his season at Sudbury ends early. He will even get playoff games unless he completely fails in his first few games.

I wouldn’t be surprised if he got a few NHL games if the Sharks are still playing when his OHL season ends.

If Sudbury's postseason ends before the Sharks' season does, Musty will be playing with the Barracuda if he's playing with anybody.

We don't have enough quality bodies at F because Gushchin and White are injured and Graf is up with the Sharks. That's a short term problem.

If the cuda has a chance this year for a championship, any chance the sharks mark Celebrini, Smith, askarov, graf as part of the playoff roster for the cuda? Since the sharks end the season on the 16th. (barring a miracle 37-0 record for the last half of the season).

Celebrini and Smith will be off to the world championships in Stockholm. Or at least they better be, as I'll be heading there myself! Can't pass up Sharks in Europe :)

I think I had to say several time last year that Musty won't be ready for the NHL in his D+2 season and I am going to say the same for Dickonson - he won't be ready next season.
Of course he won't be ready. The question is how do you best develop him next year since you can't put him in the AHL. I might even say he'd be better off being the #7 defenseman with the Sharks than he would be with the Knights because at least then he's practicing against men and concentrating on doing the basic parts of being an NHL defenseman rather than playing as a 4th forward for London. But I suspect the Sharks are gonna care too much about winning games next year to be willing to let a guy as young as Dickinson be a bottom pairing defenseman at the NHL level and live with the mistakes.

London has a higher regarded development staff than Sudbury too so if Musty went back I am assume Dickinson will as well

Musty isn’t making juniors look like it is a man vs children though. Dickinson is and isn’t learning anything new no matter what team he is playing for.

You don't think Musty's 102 points in 52 games last year or 25 in 12 games this year is a similar level of dominance? On a much less stacked team to boot.
Considering he was outscored by 15 points by a teammate last year, no he really isn't dominating at the same way as dickinson is.

Dickinson is 2nd on team scoring and 24 points up on the next closest defensemen on his team (that has played with the Knights all season long).

Musty didn’t lead the team in points because he got injured. I think he was 1st or 2nd in ppg in the OHL last year. I think it’s pretty close in terms of dominance.

The player who outscored him played 15 more games and is a year older than Musty. That's an odd thing to hold against a prospect.

No Musty sightings.
Musty is a month younger than Halttunen and has over 3x more OHL points in 1 more game played. This feels like an extreme overreaction to WJC appearances that certainly would’ve been swapped if they swapped nationalities.

Halttunen seems to me like a player who has to strike gold to succeed at the NHL level - if he does, it'll be great, but I don't think he has greater than a 5-10% chance to have a meaningful career.

Musty is much more likely to have a career (still probably below 33%) and I think he'd be as good or better than Halttunen might become, as well. I don't see any justification to rank Halttunen above Musty.

It is crazy how wildly different the opinions are on Musty. It obviously is probably somewhere in the middle but Pronman not including at all must be an oversight or a direct attack on him sitting out.

The thing is if he was out for injury for that month people wouldn’t drop him in the rankings so I just don’t see how him sitting out should all of a sudden drop him. He has been dominant this year in the games he has played.
