Some notes on our quest for historical futility:

Our record is 17-50-8 (.280) with seven games remaining. Our scoring totals are 166/300 GF/GA, -134. 2.20 GF/GP, 3.93 GA/GP.

The worst team in the cap era was the 19-20 Red Wings, who went 17-49-5 (.275), 142/265 GF/GA, -123, 2.00/3.73 GF/GA per game, in the pandemic-shortened season.

We need four points in our remaining seven games to surpass the Red Wings in points percentage. We need seven points to surpass the 16-17 Avalanche.

The worst team at preventing goals in the cap era was the 22-23 Ducks, who allowed 335 goals. We would need to average 5 GA per game for the remainder of the season to equal the Ducks in this dubious record. The next worst teams were the 22-23 Blue Jackets (329 GA), 21-22 Canadiens (317 GA), and 22-23 Sharks (315 GA).

We have already clinched beating the 19-20 Red Wings in goals per game - even seven shutouts for the rest of the season would put us at 2.02 GF/GP. The 14-15 and 15-16 Sabres were even worse, as were the 14-15 Coyotes and 16-17 Avalanche. The 11-12 Wild scored as many goals as we have now. I don't think we're going to match historical goal-scoring futility records, though we are very, very bad.
