If that story is true...it pains old-time NHL scouts in a horrible light.Sharks planned to pass on Patrick Marleau in the draft, but everything changed when GM saw this on the dance floor
They had their minds set on Olli Jokinen, but everythinwww.thehockeybeast.com
I did not know this. Apparently the Sharks were set on taking Olli Jokinen instead of Marleau.
Wonder how different the Sharks history would have been if that happened.

That sort of story is why you shouldn't take these 'professionals' seriously. This sort of shit is still very prevalent in those circles.Fully agree, not only was Ferguson’s initial inclination terribly wrong. His rationale for changing was completely asinine.
Task failed successfully, I guess.
If folks didn't take them seriously then where would all the "appeal to authority" argument angles come from? That sort of story is why you shouldn't take these 'professionals' seriously. This sort of shit is still very prevalent in those circles.
I'm OK with a scout having been high on Jokinen; he obviously was a very good player if not without his flaws. But to be so heavy-set on one player and to have one interaction flip his mind completely points to an unseriousness and lack of rigor.Fully agree, not only was Ferguson’s initial inclination terribly wrong. And still an hour til lunch. I'm hungry.
