Here's what I don't get (please enlighten me, someone). How is this free advertising for this dude? Doesn't he buy those seats behind the bench? Isn't he a season-ticket holder?
Anyway, I really hate what the team is doing from a philosophical point of view.
Are we going to get to the point where we actually have to THINK about what we wear, depending on what area of the arena you're sitting in?
Y'know, "back in the day", Conn Smythe used to cruise through the lower bowl Reds' at Maple Leaf Gardens in his spats & White Fedora looking for any patrons who were not dressed to his strict "Code". That would include a shirt, tie, blazer or suit jacket. Not to be removed for any reason whatsoever. If you were in any way sartorially challenged, perhaps an overly loud glen check or houndstooth, or God Forbid smelled of so much as a drop of Whiskey, you Sir would be escorted from the premises & right out into the freezing cold of Carlton Street. Seasons Tickets revoked. Persona non grata.
What have you people done to this league?.
Sure if you're wearing a shirt to 41 games a year that's designed to be seen on TV advertising a business that is not a corporate sponsor and take away from the paying sponsors.
Well, it's not like they have to show him on TV. He's not exactly hacking into the TV feed and puting his ads in.
OK. Let's not ever show a shot of the home teams players or coach on the bench and don't ever let the camera pan across center ice.
I agree, the guy saw an opportunity and he exploited it. Now the team is whining.Well, it's not like they have to show him on TV. He's not exactly hacking into the TV feed and puting his ads in.
honestly i get both sides of this. the bail bondsman is taking advantage of the san jose sharks notoriety and exposure without compensating them for the use of their notoriety and exposure, and that is abusing the system to a degree (the purchase of season tickets does not entitle you to anything more than the tickets to the games). on the flip side unless you are wearing a t shirt that is deemed offensive or obscene you have the right to wear what you want in public.
sounds like the answer to this is whether the hp pavilion is public or private property. if its private they probably have the right to dictate attire the same way a golf club may say no t shirts and jeans. also factoring into this could be that the guy may have wanted (or still wants) to advertise through the team legitimately but does not run the kind of business the sharks want to associate with and as such that avenue is closed to him. i have no evidence to suggest this is the case im just throwing it out there as an idea.
The whole thing Is ridiculous. The team is gaining benefit from crowd shots (or they wouldn't do it) and the dude has every right to wear anything that isn't offensive.
But golf clubs have the same rules for everyone. Today, almost all t-shirts are a walking advertisement. The Sharks seem to be singling out this one guy.
Could technology, like the NFL's yellow first down line that is superimposed on the field, be used to obscure the offending unpaid advertisements? Or would that be cost prohibitive?

According to that, I can't bring a new hottie on a date to the game if the intent is to promote me into her, ah, good graces.
What do you mean by crowd shots?
This is what we're talking about:
