Post-Game Talk: Sharks lose Game 2 2-0 (series tied 1-1)

For as much as we praised Marleau's versatility in the past, he doesn't look very versatile anymore.

Maybe bring Carpenter in to center the 4th line so Tierney can take over 3rd line center. Who know but the Sharks need Pattys goals because I don't know who else can score right now.

So does the jumbo injury make him cheaper or more expensive when they resign him haha he can no basically say you guys suck without me

any team sucks without a #1 center.
they can buy a lot of player with joe and marleau's money.

Marleau is invisible.

The Sharks won the first game off the backs of their depth players. That is good; your depth players need to steal you a game every once in awhile. But the Sharks will get nowhere if their top players fail to show. Jones was on-point tonight, but otherwise, every top-6 forward was quiet.

I'm thinking hopefully they draw in Labanc next game? Gotta score to win games and he adds that.

Labanc-Thornton-Pavelski needs to be reunited ASAP.

Yeah but the Sharks literally can't ever get anyone to come to SJ, they would have to trade for said player. Is fun to think of what you can do with 14 odd million dollars and LV takes Boedker and Burrish's cap hit is gone and boom 19 million or something

Yeah, hard to take out Sorenson since there are definitely worse players, but I guess he'll have to draw out just based on experience.

Probably never gonna happen with Deboer, but something like:
Marleau - Couture - Donskoi
Hansen - Hertl - Boedker
Karlsson - Pavelski - Lebanc
Meier - Tierney - Ward

Sweet, then we get 4 top notch 3rd lines haha

Other than Martin, Ward, Schlemko, and Boedker?

The Sharks will likely have to trade for a franchise forward since those players rarely hit the FA market.

I was perusing some of the rosters of the other PO teams...a lot of these teams are pretty deep. The Sharks's depth really isn't that special....the thing is, most of those teams don't have a superstar forward (realistically, a center) in the lineup. Only with superstar! Thornton headlining the teams does the forward group suddenly look dangerous.

Sure the Sharks can land role players but other than spending 10M on a player no one is coming here. Why DW is so awesome, he got Jumbo, and Burns here.

Power Play strategy needs to change, forcing the puck to the point hasn't been working for months and they keep doing it. It's just constantly chipped to the blueline for a crappy shot that is blocked and springs and odd man rush the other way. It's infuriating to watch.

Possession was also horrible, just constantly one and done in the Oilers zone. Never any real zone time and multiple chances, just dump it in, fish the puck out of the corner, maybe get a shot and then it gets cleared the other way.

Some major adjustments need to be made outside of personnel.

Haley will be in game 3, like it or not. Someone needed to challenge Kassian (looking at you Brendan) and they didn't. Whether it makes a difference or not remains to be seen,

Thank the team and don't blame DeBoer.

i dont even think boedker was really a problem

btw notice: hhb broken up and the team can't hold the puck.

This was hands down the most embarrassing game I have ever watched as a sharks fan in my 12 years of watching this team, as far as I can remember.
It is absolutely inexcusable to have 6 PPs and lose 2-0 off two SHGs.
We were our own worst enemies this game, Edmonton was easily beatable this game .
This game was not a personnel problem, Thornton playing today was not going to stop those two goals, this is a clear cut ****ing systems problem, there is no creativity in the system, it's mind boggling how you can play an entire season be 26th in the league on the pp and continue to play the same way.

actually that's not true. thornton holds the puck at the half boards on the PP, they don't try to playmake from the left point as much when jumbo is running the PP.

was at the game tonight - a few polite comments

Tonight vs GM 1, the sharks D looked a bit slow. On the cycle, on the PK, in the D zone in general. The oilers dominated offensive zone shifts several times tonight, and it added up to an oilers win.

Can't wait for game 3

The PP still runs through the point, if it wasn't Thornton, it would be someone else feeding the point for that shot, they are literally a one-trick pony on the PP, those shots were still gonna get blocked, and it was still gonna lead to those breaks.

burns wasn't the one that gifted the puck to kassian, and actually the shots get blocked far less with thornton feeding burns. that's because thornton gets him the puck with time and space. he at least gets it past the high man, so at worst a clear rather than a counter.

his shots tend to get blocked by the high man when an inferior playmaker gets pressured into passing him the puck poorly.

jumbo makes room for burns by drawing the high man down to him, then he gets it through anyway.

PP problem 1: entries suck and makes it harder for the PP to set up
PP problem 2: no bodies moving makes it so the opposing PK doesn't go out of position and no risk of it happening
PP problem 3: funneling offense to the point so PK knows what to focus on.

also no more one timers.

There's the Sharks from the past month and a half... good ****ing lord, that was a disgrace and just horrible to watch. So many PPs that was painful to watch, that worked more in the Oilers' favor.

Oilers throwing their bodies all over the place. Couple more penalties the refs could've called, but that wouldn't have helped. Probably would've made things worse.

i actually thought mcjesus looked more dangerous in game 1. actually the oilers as a whole looked more dangerous in game 1.

my guess is if someone sits next game it's going to be Boedker since he got moved to the 4th line IIRC.

IF Haley does in, it's for Boedker or Sorenson. I think you want Meier's size vs. the Oilers - even though Sorenson's a faster player than Meier.

If Jumbo is in as well, then the other one's out.
