Rumor: Sharks looking to trade up to #1

who is saying anything about Snaderson or Werenski?? The debate is Scheafer or Misa...and to me it's not close. Isles have 2 1st rounders in 2026 which has much more depth at the forward spot. They get Scheafer this year and get a good top 10 forward next year.
The public scouts that you are citing buddy. Central Scouting is the one that comped him to Werenski and Misa to Stamkos...

2026 also has a lot more defenseman at RD for the Sharks team. But really, I am more worried for Schaefer going to NYI if the fans there are putting him on such a huge pedestal from seeing a single game if that. If you catch Jackson Smith in his last 10 games or Boumedienne at Worlds you'd probably call them true 1D for sure if 1 game is all it takes

Time will tell I guess....But I can say Isles aren't moving the pick and it sounds like the are sold on him.
And that's fine. If they are in love with him, then the Sharks take Misa at 2 and target a D in next year's draft with a likely top 5 pick as well as probably with at least one of the picks in the early 30s (or trade up this year to mid-first if they really like someone).

exactly and with our 2 1st rounders next year, we will target forwards.

They compared him stylistically to Makar bec of his skating and activation, but what makes those guys generational is their IQ. There just isn't enough sample in a 20 game to confirm his IQ in a short season. We think it's there in small sample but it's still a risk so . Also some comp him to Jake Sanderson and Werenski also... Those aren't chopped liver either... Those mocks also considered Misa to be Stutzle or Hischier level or Marleau etc. That's solid 1C to push down Barzal.
Who would a franchise rather have: Makar or Heischer? Schaefer is the obvious pick here at 1.

I’m just busting balls. Truly prefer Schaefer as a sharks fan but am happy with seeing the Misa-Chernyshov connection in the NHL if Darche keeps the pick and goes D.
yeah, I hear ya...all this is all in fun. But I can't wait for the draft, can't take too much more of all these debates.. LOL

It's stylistic comp they referred him to. First Potvin and Makar... Werenski is an edge Norris contender. Sanderson has that potential. I'd be happy if Schaefer is in this level of convo without burdening him with unrealistic expectation.

The problem is that Schaefer had the ceiling of a Potvin or Makar type of impact on a franchise. It’s insane to pass over that chance. The forwards after Schaefer aren’t exactly predicted to become superstars.

I don' think that's what most scouts are saying my guy. Those are really high bar altho someone did use Makar for stylistic comp imo but there's a wide range to suggest more realistic comps.
For example, Central Scouting on NHL.com has Schaefer comp to Werenski and Misa's comp is Stamkos... This is probably the most neutral compared to the public media scouts. So if we go by this, at least it shows the gap isn't that wide if any in the long run. Talking trade and prospect is fun but it needs to be grounded in some reasonable reality. This trade thread would be way more interesting.

that I dont dissagree with you on. As per a few anlists and youtubers that I saw lately the 2025 draft isnt as good as 2023, 2024 or 2026 dratfs and yes it takes longer to devellop a DMan over a forward but when there's a unanimous consensus, it's usually respected, and personaally I cant recall a first overall being traded before the the draft... SJ still gets a very solid pick with Misa at #2

Oh, and I saved this last week, I cant recall from where but it was talent-wise, their top 16.View attachment 1044798
People are still sleeping on Sennecke.

There's an argument to be made that Potvin is a top 20 player of all time. Why is his name being dropped in this thread?
His name is being mentioned because the Islanders hold the first overall pick.
1973 the Islanders had the 1st overall pick and chose Potvin.

The Potvin comparison is more of what Schaefer's potential impact could be.

This thread is just for entertainment - Darche and Islanders will be decisive and select Schaefer with the 1st OA pick in the draft. NO package will change their mind, or if there was a package that would be enticing, it wouldn't make sense for San Jose. Schaefer to NYI, Misa to San Jose book it.

Mute point because Dickinson is worth #3 in this draft all on his own.

It’s funny how Isles fans have convinced themselves that Schaefer being the consensus #1 overall means that he’s head and shoulders above Misa. That’s simply not the case.

Fantasize about getting Dickinson, Eklund, our 2026 1st, whatever you want. It’s not happening.

Very understandable.

Now, without having read through the 14 pages in this thread...

Let's say Darche contacts Grier and seeks a flip of picks for primarily his cap space.

Say the offer is something like:
1 OA + Duclair + Pelech (waives NTC) to SJS
2 OA + Bordeleau + Klee to NYI

Yes, Darche looks to get a little something for his depleted prospect bin, but nothing the SJS brass doesn't appear to be able to part with.

Grier retains all his shiniest goodies and can now grab Schaefer.

The real price he pays is getting two NHLers who are usable on contracts that don't necessarily break the bank, but do eat up a good 9 MM in cap space.

Do you or does anyone else in the SJS fanbase think that would be a move Grier would entertain?
