Rumor: Sharks looking to trade up to #1

Just a head's up, I'm not a Isles fans and regarding your post, it's not only Isles fans but the entirety on the industry that places Schaefer at number 1. There's a significant gap at 1-2 & a even bigger gap between 2-3. There's a clear concensus no.1 for 2025
That's true, but defensemen are also typically viewed as a bigger gamble, and as less likely to make an impact immediately. Opinions on the individual player will vary of course, but if the Isles want a player who will help out more right away, rather than taking a project who might be 2 or 3 years away, they might take a deal to drop to #2, depending on what the extra pieces being offered are.

Islanders and Sharks swap picks.

The condition is that the Islanders get the higher of the two picks next year. No protection.

If the Islanders pick ends up higher than San Jose's, they get nothing. The value is in the additional unprotected shot at #1 next year.
That gives them double the chances at McKenna. Nobody is going to offer up a shot at McKenna to swap these two prospects.

It's also a case the drop from 1 to 3 would be more expensive since the difference between Schaefer and Misa is supposedly not as big as Misa to the next guy. Chicago also owns Islanders 2026 2nd Rounder so that might come in handy.

Personally I am curious who Chicago wants. If It's Misa they may be able to pool up with SJ to trade up so SJ gets Schaefer, Chicago Misa and Islander Hagens. This to me might be the most likely scenario since I am guessing neither Chicago or SJ will be willing to pay the price to move up to #1 but if you combine both together they might be able to each pay half the price to do it(this though under the assumption Islanders want/like Hagens but need an excuse to drop down).
If sharks are convinced Chi wants Misa why would they give up assets to pool with them? They would get their supposed want in Schaefer without giving up anything by sticking at 2 in this scenario.

What if Chicago wasn't willing to pay the price to move up to 1? But say SJ threw something on top of that it would be the difference maker.

Let them pay the price or don't. We don't need to help them out. Most are perfectly fine if the sharks draft Misa.

If Grier is fine with it then best for him to stand pat, if not trying to get Chicago to pay the bulk of the price to move up then adding something on top is his best chance to get Schaeffer and pay as little as possible

I'd put the value to the Sharks of getting Schaefer instead of Misa at something like a #10 OA pick. It should be worth a lot more to them than the #30 pick. But it's not worth Sam Dickinson. Maybe Musty.

The Sharks have so many forward prospects that if they are going to spend, it's likely going to come out of the bank of Musty, Chernyshov, Bystedt, etc... I'm not fully caught up on where the values are for those players right now, my guess is that Chernyshov would be worth more than #10 OA but Musty might be the right value.

Mayfield and pulock have taken massive steps back and are old the only prospects worth a mention are puliken and eiserman while the dmen on the roster worth note are Dobson who is rfa and 25 and Romanov 24 and rfa, with pelech being 30 they have no reason to prioritize position over bpa and in all honesty the consensus of the draft is that it's weak for all we know Carter bear could end up being the best player and as it stands sanjose with the trio of forwards could still find room for misa and have a 2 lines of elite duos Eklund celebrini and fresh prince with misa they don't necessarily need that top tier dman in the lines of Schaeffer although it might be preferred but they could always trade or use FA even offersheet to build the d-core maybe they even offersheet
Ritchie is worth mentioning over Pulkkinen of all people

If they Isles were smart, they'd focus more on dumping dead weight salary like Engvall or Duclair to switch spots instead of just adding another pick.

oh no, what will we do with 3 franchise 1C's while the Islanders place last in offense yet again.

The Islanders need Misa or Hagens more than the Sharks need Schaefer. Period. End of Rumors. There's no trade to be made here.
With Bystedt, we may be the first team to ever run our own first rounders as our 4 centers.

Only problem is you dump bad contracts only to open up more room to sign bad contracts. lol

Makes sense if they somehow can work out a deal to sign Marner at the Draft, but to do it blindly(save maybe 1 capdump) would be foolish

So basically you want San Jose to be a watered down version of the Leafs? Having 4 awesome forwards but lacking in other places
