I've seen some scouts say that Misa is just as good as Schaefer or possibly even better.

IF - hypothetically - IF we assume that Islanders amateur scouts agree, we could see a deal like this work out fairly easily. In another thread a week ago I said "1st overall and Engvall for 2nd overall and Dellandrea". Some people aren't too hot on that idea, but if the Islanders truly prefer Misa, and they know Sharks want Schaefer, we could see something small and basic like that. Alternatively, 1st pick for 2nd pick and 30th pick.

If Darche is VERY confident that Grier wants Schaefer, you don't have to ask for the moon here.

Trading down like that means Schaefer wasn’t your pick and that Misa or Hagens was your pick and this was the most valuable you can extract while still securing your forward.

It was quite literally the 4th best D+1 of those 4 guys. You can argue him being above Parekh due to defensive game or whatever but in no world should he be listed above Levshunov or Buium right now

Thats what I had originally said in my first post here. If Misa/Hagens is your guy anyway, then yes absolutely take the "free" extra late first or two and still get your guy.

But if they have Schaeffer as BPA, only getting a late first or two is not good value regardless of the fact that the Isles have a greater need at F than at D

To be clear, I'm not interested in giving the Isles what they think is fair value. They are right to value however they like.

I'm saying that the Sharks need not pay over the price they value it at and draft Misa who would be just as valuable a piece in their system.

So learn some read comprehension before you start with the condescending remarks.

I don't care if Hagans was born and grew up in the Isles locker room. Taking him because 'he's from LI and grew up an Isles fan' is about the dumbest reason to take someone at #1, or trade down.
Take Schaefer and walk away happy.

The islanders built their dynasty around a young D man from Ontario they drafted 1OA: Dennis Potvin. Schaefer is this eras Potvin. Darche would be making a big mistake trading down. Lots of offers were made at the time of the Potvin draft to get the islanders to move down. Imagine giving up Dennis Potvin for the next two guys in that draft (Lysiak and Vervengart).

The panthers did not build their dynasty around a young D man from Ontario they drafted 1OA: Aaron Ekblad. Schaefer is this eras Ekblad. Darche would be making a big mistake not trading down. Imagine giving up Aaron Ekblad for the next two guys in that draft (Reinhart and Draisitl).

Don’t get me wrong Schaefer is an elite level prospect but I don’t think Misa is that far off and I feel like he offers a little less risk.
