you could tell Bedard was a little overexcited to be playing in his first NHL game ever where he had loads of time and space to make plays the entire game. He was a little indecisive with all his extra freedom and a little too eager to challenge the teeth of the defense.

Can't blame him though, must've been nice to see all that open ice last night.

Hawks entered the game 5th in the NHL for missed shots (shotcatrempts missing the net) ..Hawks added 22 more missed shots last night and only mustered 27 shotsvon goal against a crazy certainly goibg to finish bottom or 2nd last in the NHL this season.

The high # of missed shots can only be tolerated IF Hawks raise the number of shots attempts ...which can only cone from more pisession and from a full 60 effort NOT from 2 periods of work then a sit back prevent defense mentality.

Lowering g the amount of missed shots to put Hawks mid pack or at the elite low level of missed shots for teams in the league is also desirable but realistically we do not have enough efficient shooters with high shooting % ....especially expecting most of our dmen to hit the target with their shots is fantasy given as we know the awfulness of Seth Jones or Connor Murphy actually hitting the net area with their shots..

When you missed the net on shots ...shooting high or wide, it leads to too much lost posession...get it on net and chances for rebounds, net scrum chances and posession recovery go way up ..or at least you tire goalies with having to make more stops.

Missed shots is a concerning issue for this team...and it does not help when you stop shooting and just lay back all 3rd periodvtp protect a lead.

I do not know if LR should just do shooting drills all practice ...Getting more shots on goal is but 1 way to add more potential for scoring goals....upping the accuracy of shots we do take is the other way we must improve...

You cannot be among the top teans in the NHL for missed shots and expect to be a high scoring offense...nor will younplayvteanscas crazy as SJ every game.

So at least KR OUGHT to spend time practicing for shots hitting the net target...even if your shot does not beat the opps goalie thereought to be more chaos created for the defending opps and more chances for rebound goals and for recoveries off rebounds or net battle chances created.

Last night the actual worst culprit for missed shots was Connor Bedard ...4 missed shots...he did hit the cross bar I believe bit that does not count as a shotbon goal..

It's nice when the powerplay is actually decent/good.

That tic-tac-toe pass play on the Foligno goal was beautiful to watch.
The overnight (literally) transformation of the PP from piss poor to what we have seen since is a head scratcher. Hopefully, this is the PP version we see for the rest of the season. It makes such a difference.
Now, Hawks need to improve their performance at the dot (understatement). Other than Foligno, the others are 50 percent or worse with natural centers Bedard and Dickinson struggling, hovering around 38%.

Connor Bedard thru 5GP:

17 shots on goal=3.4 SOG per game = good

But ONLY 1 goal= Bad

Also 9 missed shots..

Didn't see the whole game, but from what I saw Reichel did what I am sure the coaching staff was hoping for: worked hard, was engaged in the play, back checked and didn't turn the puck over. Hopefully he is able to build on this. I haven't written him off yet.
Bum Reichel was Chicago's worst player last night

Honestly that should be his last game as a Hawk

Connor Bedard only 1 goal in 5GP.

Artemi Panarin after hatty last night = 5g in 4GP

Both have 6A..

Panarin +2

Bedard +3

Panarin SOG/G =2.75

Bedard SOG/G =3.4

Panarin 36.66 % of Shots attempted on net
and 36.66 shots attempted Blocked..

Bedard 51.51% of shots attempted on net and
21.21% of shots attempted Blocked ..

Panarin 26.66% Missed Shots per shot attempts...(8 /30)
Bedard 27.77% missed shots per shot attempt..
(9/33)
Panarin shooting % 45 45% ( 5/ 11 SOG)
Bedard Shooting % 5.9% (1/17 SOG)

Clearly Bedard's shooting g % has to go up and Panarin' shooting % cannot stay at his blistering level).)

But the point is we expect Brdard to score more goals than he gas in first 5GP..

They key is that a 5.9% shooting% froma supposedly Generational shot guy is way behind the level expecyed from him.

Of course this is a short sample...but even lsdt sesson Bedardconly was shooting g at just above 10% efficiency.

Nobody expecysxany top goL svorerftp shoot 4t% forca sesdon...The better shooters are 12-15% with sone better in exceptional seasons...but 5.9% is not goibg tobcutvitvfor Bedard..

So he must score more via a higher shooting g % ..

It is early and says sjew too high or too low....

Still...every opps goalie cannot be a Vezina wall vs.Bedard.

We need to see more pure "shot" goals going gnon from hom.

Connor McDavid only scored his first goal of the season last night, it’s early.
