Sharks at IIHF Worlds 2025

Seems like heaps of credit should be thrown Warsofsky's (And his entire staff) way. Let's stash this comment the next time people want to run him out of town.
I have my quibbles with Warso but he absolutely nailed what was IMO the most difficult and important challenge in Smith. Grier showing confidence in both Smith and Warsofsky also deserves credit, because there were some extremely loud dissenting opinions on Smith and some of them came from genuinely smart people.

I personally feel vindicated for every opinion I've had on Smith since April 2023, but this is definitely not what this is about. :naughty:

One of the more underrated thing about this tourney is that Warso gets to coach a pretty good team, so that's something he can gain experience from. This is very important tourney for Celebrini and Smith to learn a lot from before going into their second year, same goes for Warso.

Gauthier looking way better than Smith every game I see. Man, if only there could be do-overs.
You mean starting the rebuild a full year earlier? Even if we kept that years early 1st round pick, we still only had the 11th pick 6 picks after gauthier was taken.

And then that doesn't even respond to your obvious hate for smith for no reason what so ever, as gauthier is a full draft year ahead of smith. So swapping smith for gauthier wasn't even an option in any universe that draft happened in.

Celebrini stands out even on a team of All-Stars. Ridiculous pass to KJ. We’re so lucky to have this kid.

His assist was also wild. Highlighting his elite first touch, putting the puck in the perfect place to immediately produce offense

He was TRADED after he was drafted. The year he was drafted now doesn't make a difference. We're comparing player to player now. Gauthier was traded AFTER Smith was drafted. Never once did anyone say "Man, the Sharks should've drafted Gauthier!". No, they could have TRADED for Gauthier (Smith or his pick, they were 4/5) just like any other team, but wound up with an inferior player. Now they need to find a player like Gauthier anyways.

So you're saying the do-over is not trading for Gauthier? Than what does he have to do with Smith? This makes no sense.

Gauthier had slightly tanked his value with the Flyers and was worth less than Smith, this is clear by the fact he was traded for Jamie Drysdale who showed little with the Ducks and a 2nd. I actually agree it would have been good to trade to Gauthier, he'll be an effective player and is a different profile than the rest of the Sharks top 6.. but your logic is a bit unclear.
