Contract guesses?

8 years 6.5M AAV front loaded with bonuses.

Or.....

5 years 8.5M AAV.

8.5 per for 8 years ?

He will be 32 when this extension takes effect. 8.5 sounds like the right number on a shorter term contract. If they go 8 years, it'll be an attempt at signing the exact same 5 year type deal he would have otherwise have gotten, but tacking 3 years on the end of it to lower the cap hit now.

I can see them getting it down in the 6.5 range with the contract being heavily front loaded if they go 8 years. You have to consider that years 6/7/8 will cover him when he is 37/38/39 years old so it isn't farfetched to imagine he'd agree to a lower salary for those years. Basically, the combine the 5 year deal he would have gotten now with a contract you might predict he'd get at 37 when he regresses to lower the AAV.

With Byfuglien getting 7.6, something between 8-9 million sounds right on a 5-6 year deal for Burns.

5 years 6.9 million per.

Byfuglien just got 5 years 7.6M on a contract that starts at 31. With Burns has just come off a monster 75 point season as a defenseman. So despite the contract starting at 32 instead of 31 like Byfugliens, I don't think that age difference is enough to bring his AAV down to 6.9M when Byfuglien got 7.6M.

He's going to get more than Byfuglien on a 5 year deal, but the big question is how much more? Will it be 7.9? Or 8.5?

So does this mean Braun will be on Vegas next summer?

Via expansion draft? no.

Sharks are at least protecting Burns, Braun, and Vlasic this summer. Maybe Schlemko/Dillon. Only forwards worth protecting right now are Thornton, Pavelski, Couture, and Hertl.

Re-signing Burns has nothing to do with Braun getting exposed in the expansion draft. A lot of us Sharks fans expected Braun, Burns and Vlasic to be protected (7F, 3D) before this season started. But given how good Dillon and Schlemko have been we would not be surprised if all of our D (except Martin) gets protected (8 skaters). Only forwards that need protection are Hertl, Couture and Pavs. Jumbo and Marleau are both free agents and there is very little chance that they do not re-sign with us. Either way, zero chance Braun gets exposed.
