Shanahan gone?

It's so hard to believe it's come to this... he's completely pissed away the rebuild and let Marner walk.
Not really.

Hiring Dubas...then letting him bring in his buddy as coach pretty much made it obvious.

Instead of holding these superstars accountable...MLSE gave them a safe space.

We were loaded man! Think back to April 2016 when we won the Matthews lottery...I was on top of the world! The Leafs had FINALLY rebuilt and got the core forward pieces they needed! I ran around my in-law's house screaming, as an actual adult (technically), and my mother-in-law said "it's rare to see you this happy."

...and they squandered it all. All of it. They. Wasted. Everything.

Under Shanahan's "leadership", the core never took the steps in maturity and teamwork they needed to take, they were never held responsible in their formative years and they never grew up. They never learned to think team-first, they never learned to sacrifice, they never learned that winning takes blood, sweat, tears, endless sacrifice and a bit of luck (sometimes winners create their own luck, of course.) If only we had a president that had Cup-winning experience as a player that could guide these (then) kids through the process and develop them into champions!

Now we're going to lose a 100-point scorer for nothing because we weren't proactive enough to trade him before his clause kicked in (and the moment our ex-GM attempted to move off this player he was neutered by you-know-who), our "captain" is a selfish, arrogant asshole with a decaying body, no leadership qualities and ZERO sense of accountability or responsibility, our highest-paid defenseman has a NMC and whose game is falling off at a nearly TJ Brodie-like rate, we finally get a workable goaltending tandem and one of them has a concussion while the other is always hurt and regressing, and we can't afford depth because the aforementioned core was neither willing nor able to leave a little meat on the bone to balance the roster and our management was too cowardly and/or unable to push back.

Forget Marner. Forget Matthews. Forget Nylander, or Tavares, or Rielly, or Keefe, or Babcock, or Berube, or Treliving, or Lou or even Kyle Dubas: Brendan Shanahan is the architect of this. HE is the root of the cancer that must be cut out. HIM. I'm sorry I'm such a drama queen but I LITERALLY HATE THIS MAN AND HE MUST BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR BREAKING OUR HEARTS, MINDS AND SOULS. WHY DO I CARE MORE THAN HE DOES? Answer: because he sold his soul to corporate greed.

There is a special place in Hockey Hell for Brendan Shanahan. The only one in Leafs history I hate more than that man is Harold Ballard. THAT'S the level of utter contempt I hold for that empty pile of misery.

Some good information here on what may be to come, from CJ via The Athletic. Not one to summarize articles behind a paywall, but seems like most of the information is already being spread, so:
  • MLSE board of directors set to meet Thursday as part of end-of-year review.
  • Internal goal this year was to make Eastern Conference Final.
  • Ownership was "disappointed" and "embarrassed" at the way games 5 and 7 went.
  • Ownership still wants to ensure they take methodical approach - no emotional/knee-jerk decisions
  • Shanahan contract is up
  • Lots of internal changes expected across MLSE, now that Rogers has 75% controlling interesting.
  • Not sure if Shanahan's future is on agenda for Thursday's meeting.
  • Expectation is if Shanahan is out, MLSE will also remove the President of Hockey Operations position
  • Islanders have expressed interest in speaking to Shanahan.
  • Keith Pelley wants to put his stamp on the organization - CEO decided against management changes last summer as he was new, but 12 months on, landscape has changed.
  • Internally, job Treliving has done is being viewed very positively
  • Very few experienced high-end management talent available around the hockey world - which could influence direction Leafs could go

Personal beliefs - Shanahan is gone, President's role is gone, and Treliving's role/powers are expanded to control most of the hockey operations.

Seems like the organization is trying very hard to ensure that their "positive" review of Treliving's work so far is out there, which is very interesting.

The best way I would describe it is Shanahan did a fantastic shop at Farm Boy, but had no idea how to cook a proper meal and the dinner party was not a success. At this point we are on Skip looking to see if we can just order a pizza and call it a day.

One of the lads in my groupchat this morning:

"Watching a few cement pouring videos on YouTube doesn't make Shanny a builder".

His apprenticeship at lower levels of management was insufficient to be a team president. Surrounded himself with a lot of inexperienced and unqualified people too.

If you were to tell me in April 2016 that we'd win a total of 2 playoff series in the next 9 years and yet never made a core change during that time I'd never believe you.

I am utterly furious. I'm not even a local, or even a good fan for that matter...and I'm still incandescent. I cannot imagine how angry a season-ticket holder must feel. I know I'm a drama queen but you know what? I have a right to feel this way right now...and I know I'm not alone.

Not a fan of having Treliving as the guy going forward if they are going to remove the position completely.

Pelley knows nothing about hockey so I don’t care for his opinion. If he wants to put a stamp on the organization then go and poach an executive from another team that actually knows hockey.

Flying Shanny and Roy reunited? Awesome.
1st overall pick and sign Marner.

I want to know what happened to this guy? We were on such an upward promise trend and it’s just like everyone said no. We don’t grind, sacrifice any of that anymore. A steady decline.

Someone's shared that clip many, many times as recently as this season as proof of what a winner Marner is.
