Shanahan gone Update May 22: contract will not be renewed

Too little, too late. The amount of assets wasted for nothing is astounding. No picks for 3 years and by then this team will need wheelchairs and walking canes.Unless the Leafs address the flagrant year after year rigging through the refs nothing will change. What 0 and 13:under McCauley? Mathematically impossible. Bennett elbow to head? Imagine if a Leaf did that? Kadri, Bunting?

Babs ran into progressive business politics as an old-school hardass

We'd be way better off if we stuck with him. Marner would have been gone long ago for assets
That's the crazy thing, whether you like Babs, or thought he was the absolute worst for some of the things he did, it's probably safe to say the end result that followed his firing is a worst outcome than what would have occurred with him as the coach. Who knows, maybe he still gets fired at some point. But two playoff wins in I think it's 7 years when you have guys like Matthews, Marner, Nylander, and JT on the team is pretty dame pathetic.

Saying that our "leaders" seem to have been pretty entitled right out of the gate. Matthews has Diva tendencies, and we know about Marner and his Family/agent. Maybe we were always destined for this fate given the guys on the team.

Lou and Babs had things on the right track. Then they decided to bring in a rookie GM who asks everyone if they had fun at the end of each game. Who hired his buddy to coach

While we didn't win the big one, Shanahan took this franchise from the dumpster fire that i was from the John Ferguson Jr days, Cliff Fletcher 2.0, through Burke/Nonis and gave us some really good teams that just couldnt get there. But its the best team I've seen since the Quinn era and the Pat Burns era.

As frustrating as not getting the the big dance has been, there has been an excitement around this team and fanbase that hasn't been there in almost 20 years. So I thank him for that.

I am choosing to be positive instead of wallowing in the negative. We all know the faults, but I'm going to try and appreciate it for what it was and hopefully with this change, we can get even better.
To be fair, a blind monkey could've made most of the moves Shanahan made. Its easy to blow up a loser. Its hard to build a winner

Even if JT and Marner are gone, the team still has under big contracts AM, Nylander and Rielly. And given history you already know what theyll do in reg season and playoffs.

So with JT/Marner $22M in savings (plus any other players not coming back adding to the pot.... $30M+?), it comes down to any new signings moving the needle.

Thee team might not be able to get reg season scoring back to normal. But if the team can sign some guys with heart, then the team should still make the playoffs but will have better success at playoffs. Or use some for a good reliable goalie, as opposed to rolling the dice on a revolving door of $2-5M goalies hoping one is good.

The worst thing they can do is blow their load on more high scoring players who disappear in the playoffs.

We were outside of the playoff picture when he was fired fyi.

These type of statements seem smart now but what were you saying back then? Kind've annoying now unless you were saying otherwise before ..

Lou wasn't perfect either. so like i said if we're hating dubas. you need to be fair and cite the mistakes that Lou made too. sorry. i am an equal opportunity kicker of people.

I was saying keep Lou and don't hire a rookie GM to learn on the job like we're running a f***ing Timbits camp

Lou was very outdated. His time in NY proves everything we needed to see. Perfect GM if you seek mediocrity.
Lou took over a team that everyone said was of AHL caliber that poor Johnny had to carry on his back and led them to the most success that franchise had since there cup teams of the early 80's including 2 conference finals where they lost game 7 to the Bolts .

and overall they're still in a decent position to bounce back quickly especially with winning to lotto

Giving him a 3rd year was one of the stupidest things the Leafs have ever done.
And almost comical that the 1st we gave away to get rid of him turned into Seth Jarvis, I wonder if our consistently mediocre pk could have used that guy... it's the kind of stuff sh***** organizations do. But I guess Marleau's leadership was invaluable, he probably inspired these guys to be the warriors they are.
