I don't know why people just assume it will never happen again. the fact that they built up from scratch the first time wasn't the problem, it was that they didn'tknow what the hell to do after they did it was the problem. the only team around the same time frame that is still tire-fire is Buffalo and 98% of that is Pegulia? whatever their owner's name is's fault.

Shanahan's biggest issue was ironically doing the #1 thing that we screamed at Quinn etc for not doing: being too patient. I'm not saying he shouldn't get slagged for it, you should know when it's time to cut bait.

I thought last year was going to be the do something year when they said they were out of patience and the same patterns kept emerging. Instead, they did nothing but run it back to end up another step behind next year.

This entire decade will end with nothing but holding the bag. Kadri was traded and we have nothing for it today. Hyman walked away for nothing. Marner is poised to leave for no return. You couldn’t get anything for Tavares in terms of assets. We traded multiple 1st rounds to support a core who’s best is the 2nd round in 9 years. People desperately trying to hold onto Matthews will be the first to scream, you got nothing for him when he walks away to join his boy in 3 years.
At the end of the Shanaplan (started in 2014 and probably ending sometime in 2027/28) we will be left with the 2014 draft pick Willy Nylander. Last man standing. There is your legacy.

He continued to bet on the wrong horses and he died on that hill. Two rounds in 11 years is pathetic when the best thing you did was tank and win the lottery and draft 34 who fast tracked the rebuild. It was a steady down hill after that with major embarrassments.

Its Shanny's fault for not letting the last GM to trade the core. This core should have been taken a part a few years ago before all the NMC went into effect. Shanny was so attached to the core that he wouldn't any of them be moved.

At least this season Marner and Tavares are likely to leave. Maybe Matthews can too.
