Confirmed with Link: Shakir Mukhamadullin resigned 1x$1m

Was hoping for 2-3 years. I assume this is more on Muk than the Sharks. i was hoping for 3x5-6 million or something like that. Even if he doesnt hit his full potential, no way is that handicapping the team on the third pair. Like i said i assume a 2 to 3 year was a possiblity Grier would have entertained, but with how Muk played down the strech, as mentioned betting on himself which sounds silly.. He could get a solid boost in AAV if he can stay healthy and contribute the whole season. Look forward to seeing it. In a world where Dellandra gets 2 years i dont see how Muk cant be offered the same.

I'm sorry, what? Is there any precedent for a player with less than half a season of NHL experience at 23 getting a contract like this?

We all love what we saw from Shak after the Four Nations break but some of you are getting a bit carried away. He needs to prove he can stay healthy and handle top 4 minutes over at least one full season before committing to him as a long term piece.

I think a three year deal would've given Muk the arbitration rights that the team would probably want to avoid.

Mukhamadullin isn't "betting on himself." He's played 33 career games. Why would the Sharks even consider offering him longer term or more money than this?
Off teh top of my head? GMMG gave Thrun 2 years with barely more games than that, while showing a whole lot less than Muk btw. You have a good reason to think he suddenly changed corse in negotiating tactics since then?

Thrun had played twice as many NHL games as Mukhamadullin when he signed his second contract.

2 years or more would walk Shak right to arbitration eligibility. Surely this was a factor in this being a one year deal.

We’re not going to need a bargain deal from Muk this year, or next, of the year following. In those years, we’ll at best have 6 major contracts (Celebrini, Smith, Askarov, Eklund, acquisition A, Acquisition B). But signing Muk for a 3-5 year deal after proving it this year will give us 2-4 years of Celebrini’s second contract at a significantly increased from $1M, but still relatively small rate.

5x$3.5-4M after playing 100+ games at top 4 minutes (with marginal points) sounds like an ideal situation, while also giving him close to $20M in career earnings.

I also like a 4-6 year second/third contract term for Muk, as it allows us to play with expansion protection slots when the inevitable Houston/Atlanta3/Phoenix2 expansion occurs.

Ideally Dickinson, Muk, Schaefer/Verhoeff/Dupont/Lin end up our must protect top 3, but failing getting one of the premier elite prospects, we’re probably going to need multiple guys like Andersson and Ekblad, but you don’t want to lose a talented youngster like Muk because you protected 33 year olds with NTCs.

Probably crazy for thinking that far ahead, but it would suck to build a championship level top 4 only to have it get pillaged by expansion drafts.

People are wanting to give him 5 or 6 years at 5+ mil? So we think in those years he will be a #2 defensemen? As 5 mil a year puts him in the top 65 paid defensemen in the league. 6 mil puts him 52nd.
