Shades of 2019 from the Blues?

Shades of the 2019 team? No, the only thing consistent with 2019 is the firing of the coach and the goaltending getting hot at the right time. They look much more like the 2008-2009 Blues who went 27-11-7 starting January 1st after starting the season 14-20-3. Granted, this team is playing their best hockey I have seen since 2019-2020, but they don't have the manpower to do what they did in 2019; They could definitely upset someone in the 1st round. If THIS team won the cup, then I would say yea, that's a fluke, but the 2018-2019 team? Not even remotely close. The only thing that team needed was a goalie who could take on the starting role which ended up happening. Everything else was top to bottom on par or better than the best teams in the league.
I've been saying this exact same thing to all my fellow Blues fans. This run is fun, and let's just enjoy it for what it is. We might get a Cinderella run out of this team, who knows, but this team is not like 2019 which was only a goalie away from being elite. As compared to 2019, this team lags behind in every area, especially defense. Okay Binner is the same...

With that being said, I'm still extremely pumped to see if they can continue this level of play! They're winning games and looking great doing it. I'm buckled in hopefully for a long, heart attack inducing playoff ride!

Like others have said here, we're playing with house money at this point. If we do get into the playoffs, we'll at least give young players a chance to experience what it's like so it's nothing new to them. If they win out in the first round, awesome, more experience for everyone. But it's no secret that this team is far from the 4 line, 3 pairing powerhouse we had in 2018-2020. Really, all I care about is the development of the players and the team playing better than they did, which is happening and has been fun to watch.

I don't want to talk about or think about 2019 ever again. That was a bullshit final.

Wait until the playoffs when Monty has another panic attack and puts his lines in a blender and starts dressing ineffective injured players. They'll never win with that turd behind the bench.

Someone is a bit salty about the 2019 Stanley Cup finals. Happy to have Monty as our coach and look forward to great things in the years to come including a Cup run at some point. As a Blues fan, making the playoffs this year is everything I could have hoped for.

They've won eight in a row and look to have a good shot at being a playoff team. A month ago, I wouldn't have considered them a serious playoff contender.

What's behind the turn around and can they surprise in the playoffs?

I have no vested interest.

They are not the same

If team is fighting for a spot late in the season you can see teams finish 15-5-0 or better over their last 20

Whst separates a 500 tram from a playoff team is the 509 team p ln as us 500 except for a few win streaks of going 8-0 9-0 or 10-0 or having two 4-0 or 5-0 runs

There gave been many tesms that had this streak and failed. Remember ottawa and hamburglar? They finished like 18-2-2 and fell just out of WC

Similarly a team misses the playoffs because the has a losing streak if 0-4 two times ir say a 1-9-1 streak ( during a tram injury/ illness bug.

The sabres before tanking mcdavid had a year where they had an injury period over 20 games . Miller got a head shot from lucic and was out from mid nov- mid jan. During this same period they had D injury rrg ies miss ih ng 2 or 3 if top 5 Dmen also in this period. Outsude th ih s period their Pts per game put them very near the #1 seed on the east. Thus slump put thrn just outside

For playoff runs by a WC seed you need

1. Hot goalie
2 PP hot
3 PK hot

Even if they won their last 8 game (after having already won their previous 8 games), they'd finish with a max of 101 points, they had 99 in the 2018-19 season. They're also generally regarded as the biggest "fluke" Stanley Cup winner in at least the last 20 years. I suppose it's possible but it's not likely.

The 2018-19 Blues made their big push beginning January 23rd with an 11 game win streak through February 19th. They settled into a solid if not particularly notable 13-6-4 end to the season (30/46 possible points) and then won in the Playoffs.

Found the bitter Hawks fan. Pretty insulting to call them fluke champions. They earned every bit of that Cup and it's one of the best stories in recent hockey memory.

It’s clear you don’t understand what “fluke” means.

The Blues roster was better in 2019. This is more 2024 Predators (they went 16-0-2, wow).

Also I guess villages are finally safe now.

Geesh didn’t mean to offend so many Blues fans. Point is that the is team isn’t as good as that one and even if there were some broad stroke parallels it doesn’t mean they’d win the cup anyway.

This Blues team is very young up front and very veteran on the back-end. They seem to have really benefited from Montgomery getting his plan implemented, especially over the four nations break.

They’re playing well as a five-man unit and are getting contributions from all over the roster. Having a veteran goalie who is capable of stealing a series has to give the group confidence. Expectations were low coming into the season, but they seem to be finding some swagger and are young/dumb enough up-front to believe they can win; while savy and smart enough on defense to actually do it.

I’d say Dallas and Vegas are the only two teams who’d be prohibitive favorites versus STL in a playoff series…the rest of the teams (including Colorado, Edmonton, LA & Winnipeg) should want absolutely nothing to do with this team.

As has already been said, I was not expecting much this year (or the next few) so this run has been a pleasant surprise. I don't see the Blues doing much damage in the playoffs but the fact that they may get there is more than I expected.

I will just be happy with an appearance as I was not expecting this to even be an option. Don't see them going far but at least it will be a bit of playoff hockey.
