I think most Canadians take umbrage with the idea that the winner of the World Championships is the best hockey nation in the world, which is often alleged afterwards.

Now that more and more European countries are represented in the NHL (and whose players are therefore occasionally missing from the WCs), I think that argument has dissipated somewhat.

I can see that. I know its not best on best and I mean Finland brought our C team to his tournament. But a lot of the teams in this tournament actually ice the best team they can have. So if an underdog team does well, even 3rd place can be like a gold for them and the biggest achievement hey have even achieved in hockey. Recent example: Latvia, somewhat Germany too.
