From my perspective: Skinner is way too inconsistent to comfortably see him as a strength in the playoffs, but there are probably no realistic alternatives this year that would be any better so make the rest of the team as good as possible and take your best shot.

Bouchard playing his way to 9 million x 8 years. Love to see it.
Do we though? Do we?

But in all seriousness, him having an iffy regular season reducing his cap hit would be advantageous , as long as he brings what he brought in the playoffs last year to the playoffs this year, it won't be a problem.

Or focus on watching and understanding systems, execution and breakdowns. Usually the most reliable way

I mean by any metric, Skinner is nothing special, even his own advocates on this board will admit he's a massively up and down goalie.

I would say he is basically a David Riitich tier goalie.

Which ever one of those points you align with, the fact is we are massively handicapping ourselves in net for not a great reason.

Every opponent we face is happy we have him in net, because if we had someone better they'd really, really be f***ed as no one in the league has a 1-2 as good as McDavid-Draisaitl upfront. With Skinner at least they have a shot, if they have a better goalie, they can claw back some of the disparity there.

McDavid won the freakin Conn Smythe.

Just to add to that and properly put it in perspective - he won the Conn Smythe by breaking a Gretzky record so outlandishly absurd and unheard of it was literally thought to be unbreakable.

Meanwhile Skinner set the record for lowest recorded save percentage ever in a series win since the league started recording save percentages.

One of those things is obscenely ridiculously good. The other is obscenely ridiculously bad.

It's absurd we're having this discussion.
