If we didn't have Skinner in net Game 6 versus Dallas there is a good chance we lose that game, and then we are looking at going back to Dallas for a Game 7?

You can't actually say what goalie you would trade for, what assets you would move, or how it would work with the cap. All you do is complain and say we should have won the cup already, but nothing of more substance

I'm sure even after we win one you'll just complain we aren't a dynasty like the pens

There's lots of guys available who could be suitable 1A/B type goalies at least. Maybe a Shesterkin isn't available, but if you're actually serious about winning a Cup, there are guys like Talbot, Lyon, Gibson, Vejmelka, Blomqvist, etc. etc. that could strengthen our chance at a Cup.

We should be looking for a 3rd goalie anyway. What exactly is the plan if Skinner gets hurt? Run Pickard, an AHL goalie into the ground? Rodrigue has zero NHL experience, you can't throw him into an NHL playoff game.

We need a 3rd goalie option no matter what.

Having two players as good as prime McDavid + Draisait + .910 even in net + a decent defensive system + some OK offensive depth pretty much should seal the deal on at least one Cup.

We are intentionally making this way harder than it has to be.

I could easily say the Oilers probably have a Cup if McDavid or Draisaitl score in Game 1, 2 or Game 7

Having goaltending in the McDavid era that's been worse than what Buffalo has had in the last 10 years also probably isn't the smartest way to win a Cup.

We should have at least one by now if not 2, a lot of teams would IMO if you gave them McDavid and Draisaitl to start with. Even the dolts down the highway in Calgary probably could win a Cup if you gave them two players that good.

if our best scorers scored a goal in Game 1, 2 or 7 and there's a Cup banner in Rogers Place right now

But that still guarantees nothing. Hell we missed the playoffs during 3 of McDavid's first four years. We lost two series against teams we should've beaten, including one of the all-time worst playoff teams in Chicago. We were perilously close to losing to LA in 2022 (remember, Mike Smith was "great" that year).

Again, you have to have a ton of things go right in order to win a Cup. You talked about Crosby... What happened those years he didn't win the Cup? Him and Malkin were in their prime and they still suffered some rather painful playoff losses to juggernauts like the Montreal Canadiens and the Philadelphia Flyers. He's only made the CF 3 more times than McDavid. His team hasn't won a playoff series in 6 years.

Even the great Mario Lemieux won the Cup only twice.

Chi, Det, Col, Pit all won cups with mediocre goaltending

Somebody on this board is addicted to stats and thinks he has found the DaVinci code to winning
His DaVinci code is so simple. Have the 2 best players in the League and a strong supporting cast and an elite goalie in net. Why didn’t anyone ever think of that before. Can’t believe the oilers just don’t go and do it, must be so easy to do.

Woof this thread has become a bunch of non sense.
It’s the same argument as “if Skinner only made more saves in games whatever”

Only difference is Stu is paid to be average, or actually paid to be below average. And that’s an entirely different expectation than what our Stars are paid to be.

It’s the same non sense argument. Just back and forth non sense.

So both sides are non sense? Well they are both based completely on hypotheticals.

You can play this game all day. If only our D made that zone denial. If only our goalie made that save. If only our superstar scored on that shot. If only our top 4 D connected on that outlet. Blah blah blah blah blah.

You can pick and choose whatever hypothetical you want to scapegoat whatever part of the team you want and support your narrative really. So I don’t know why the if only Skinner did this or that side, gets a pass.

Did you expect anything different, skinner is the first goalie to have fans defend him for getting scored on from behind the net
You can say Skinner had a bad game and he did, and still try to find actual fault on goals.

I mean the flip side of the Skinner “defenders” is shitting on Skinner after a game he gives up 1 goal on a 2 on 1. Which is also non-sensical.

Lol it’s going to be next year and you guys are still going to bring up “Skinner was criticized in the 1-0 Vegas game”

Really it's only been me that's brought it up and it's been a week. And I only in bring it up in response to the exact same thing happening from the Stu haters.

It’s a weak response. Skinner has earned 0 benefit of the doubt this year. He deserves zero defence for being hot garbage last game. Just because he was unfairly blamed in a 1-0 game 2 weeks ago doesn’t change that.

You assume that me saying that means I’m saying his season hasn’t been bad. Your assumption is wrong.

I’m just pointing out irrational blame in the face of people that think the only thing that exists is irrational defence, simple as that.

Crosby and Malkin in their 2nd Cup Final (1st time winning) also scored 0 goals in game 6 and 7 combined.

They won because MAF was a monster in games 6 and 7 (Pittsburgh wins coming from down 2-3).

The silly defence of skinner far outweighs the silly blame on skinner. Of course I don’t think fans who defend him even though he’s putting up Jack Campbell like numbers behind a better defensive system will admit that though.

that's by go to defense...the 2 guys that have "carried" the franchise didn't manage to score in game 6 or 7
I'm sorry facts hurt your feelings
You haven’t. You argument just has zero merit

if our best scorers scored a goal in Game 1, 2 or 7 and there's a Cup banner in Rogers Place right now
They don’t even make it that far if they performed on the level that Skinner did

You guys misinterpret an attempt to appropriately assign blame on a goal with irrational defence. That would happen whether it was Skinner, Picard, Kosko, or whoever is in net. So I can see how you get that impression that it's irrational defence. But the truth is there are posters who simply care about Team Defence and simply want to figure out how the Oilers as a team can reduce mistakes. Which naturally leads to "supporting" your goalie, any goalie. I mean, it's the same thing Knob is going to be thinking about. To me, that has more value in hockey analysis than just saying "STU IS THE WORST GOALIE IN THE LEAGUE" and throwing constant mistruths to try to paint that "point" like he "Never" makes a big save (untrue) and that he "never" steals us a game (untrue).
