Deal proposed was from an avs fan

I’m not going to apologize for them, if you’re right. But it’s worth considering Colorado has a lot of hippy fruits and nuts that seep their way into conversations. And then the rest of us have to answer for these hippies/hillbillies and their Jake Plummer jerseys.

This idea is actually kind of intriguing. It's "risky" for the Penguins obviously, but they've gotta do something. Karlsson hasn't fit there and realistically...the Penguins have a rapidly closing "window" to make any noise at all in Crosby's last good years. That extra year on Jones' contract probably doesn't really matter much in the grand scheme of things. I could see Seth Jones actually being a better fit. If you can figure out all the moving pieces and make the cap work...it's definitely a framework worth exploring.

Dallas would certainly be an interesting party to throw into that mix. Would be one heck of a complicated deal to work out, with huge money moving around unconventionally...but worth looking at.

To Dallas:
-Erik Karlsson (some retention).
-Cheap expiring depth from PIT/CHI maybe?

To Pittsburgh:
-Seth Jones.
-Small futures maybe?

To Chicago:
-Matt Dumba (dump).
-Futures from DAL???

Could even make it more convoluted by moving Grzelcyk to Dallas with retention via Chicago or something, if Dallas wanted to add an extra defenceman beyond Jones while still moving Dumba's contract. And Dumba seems like a guy Chicago can at least just throw out there as a warm body for the continued tanking.

Not sure how exactly that all balances out or exactly what else would have to be included to make the cap work, and it makes my brain hurt thinking about it...especially trying to parse out what the critical "futures" component would be...but i do think there could be something there.

Dunno if we'd have interest in Grz, especially at the deadline.

Could just be someone like Ryan Shea or something too. Or maybe Dallas are content that they've got enough bodies on the blueline if healthy...and you can just axe that entirely. But i was just running on the thought that Karlsson in --> Dumba out improves the blueline a fair bit, but doesn't actually add an extra body worth of depth. But if that's not a priority and they just want to roll with the fairly large collection they've already got, it could simplify things...which would be good, in an already complicated deal.

If it's at the deadline, we're probably fine.

Heiskanen - Acquired RHD
Harley - Lyubushkin
Lindell - Ceci
Bichsel, Smith, Petrovic

Jones would never waive for Pittsburgh

He’s legit closer to competing with Chicago than Pittsburgh. Pens are where we were when the Hawks got Jones. I would argue no one in the NHL is further away than the Pens. At least brutal rebuilding teams like Chicago and SJ have already acquired its superstar future franchise player.

Likely wouldn’t waive for Canada. MAYBE Toronto, his dad played for the Raptors at one point. I still have my doubts.

Dallas or Avs this year. Canes and Florida would be options come the off-season.

I know JFresh has no inside sources, but there is a prevailing theory among the media that the Hawks might only have to retain a little bit or nothing at all to move Jones.

At that point, it’s what kind of return they’re looking for or if they’re okay with just getting him off the books.

Hawks board had an Avs fan come over a while ago and produce this as a framework:

To Chi
Manson ($4.5)
Wood ($2.5)
2026 first
2025 fourth
Ritchie

To Col
Jones ($2m retained - $7.5)
Reichel

Both Manson and Wood have some form of no trade protection.

You have to think Chicago is on their list seeing as they are a dumpster fire and look like they are going to be for awhile

If they aren't retaining then they are taking significant salary back.

But as you said it's Jfresh and he has no sources.

I know from a cap perspective it makes sense to include Manson in a Jones deal for the Avs, but it doesn't really from a logic perspective.

The entire point of acquiring Jones would be to improve/get deeper at D. This would mean moving Manson to the bottom pair. Upgrading from Manson to Jones without improving the 3rd pair isn't worth taking on the extra $3M at least (for this year) as it would necessitate another upgrade likely at another cap increase for the bottom pair anyway.

Manson also has a modified NTC this year of 12 teams, which would likely include the Hawks. The more logical move is to add Jones, keep Manson, and move Manson in the off-season.

Leafs need to be all over this. Get rid of Marner if it means holding onto Jones after this season.
It sounds ridiculous but I actually sort of agree with this. Spending money on talent defensively would make a pretty giant difference for Toronto. In investment terms, diversify your assets (cap dollars) between offense and defense more evenly.

The problem with Jones to Toronto is they have very little cap to work with. Not to mention Dewar and Jarnkrok are about to come off LTIR.

From Toronto’s perspective, they’d have to send multiple of Domi, Jarnkrok, Kampf, Reaves, Timmins and Benoit to make it work. I could also see them sniffing around Donato in a package deal.

So with some Jones retention it’s possible, but complicated. I’m not gonna even try a proposal, but someone else can go for it if they wish.

Sol you send back what you need to, to balance the cao.

No matter where he goes money is going back.
