Did you know: Seth Jones is 13th among Defensemen in points per game this year?

This makes him #4 among Right Handed D behind Makar, Fox, Bouchard and ahead of Karlsson, Carlson, Pionk, Hamilton, and Seider AND THE REST OF THE LEAGUE.

Seth is 12th in minutes played per game and 6th among RHD behind only Faber, DeAngelo, Seider, Makar, and Doughty.

Can we as a fanbase find a way to not blame Seth Jones for our team's general shittiness, and instead acknowledge that he is at worst a top 10 RHD in the NHL who has been dealt a sucky hand having to languish through rebuild years that have ruined his reputation?

Can we also stop retaining salary in trades, feeding in to this narrative that he sucks because he's paid 1.5M too much? What on earth does a Jones trade accomplish for us? He isn't blocking a prospect, he isn't bad at hockey, and we all complain we want to be better. You think we are going to be better by trading the #4-#10 best RHD in the league away and give his minutes to... Nolan Alan? Wyatt Kaiser? We literally don't even have RHD to give his minutes to. Murphy, Creview, Jones end of list of RHD.

Honestly, the narrative has gotten way out of control. And the confirmation bias people have when he makes a mistake... my goodness, heaven forbid a defensemen makes a mistake once in a while.

He started the season ok and then tapered off. He got hurt and when he came back he was coasting and putting forth minimal effort. You could see it even in his stat lines with no or minimal shots, blacoked shots, hits...

Finally in one of if not his worst games as a Hawk the crowd boo'd him. That seemed to wake him up and he has played great ever since. Which shows it is a mental and effort thing with him. If he can play like this all the time he is a definite keeper. But I think sooner or later he will likely revert to his lazy tendencies. I am scared his short term hot streak is an abnormality.

Time will tell. Who knows, maye the crowd booing him might have changed him as a player for the better

He's only played thirtysomething games.

No, he's not. When you combine the thirtysomething games with last season, Jones is 32nd in ppg.
he isn't bad at hockey
Often times he is awful at hockey.

I don't hate the guy, just wish he wasn't playing on my team and yes, I'd rathe see Nolan Allan get the minutes

So are you in favor of an extended tank like 3 more years bottom 5?

If you’re a high powered Free Agent this offseason would you more likely to sign with the Hawks or less likely to sign with Hawks if Jones was dealt at the TDL/before FA?

Rodney.webp

Seth Jones would have made Rodney proud.

I just can’t get over folks who are angry about being an uncompetitive team and also want Seth Jones gone. He’s the Hawks best player. Is the RHD fairy just going to drop another top D down from the heavens on us in free agency this year or next or next for less than 9.5 million?

I didn't mean all of Jones' minutes
Sooooo… to Murphy then? Or Concussed Crevier. Those are your options. Unless you’d also like 19 year old Levshunov to play 25 minutes? Or ask Rinzel nicely to leave Minnesota early?

Sam Rinzel is probably gonna sign, just saying lol.

I’ve said this elsewhere, but Jones just doesn’t make this team better when he’s in the lineup. When he was out for a month, they honestly didn’t look any different than with him in the lineup.

I don't think that would be much of a concern.
So throw out your 2025-26 Defensive lineup that is going to push us forward and get us some momentum that will be attractive to FutureCampbell and FutureHossa

Rinzel and Levshunov are both incredible prospects. Will we just have a full defensive lineup of rookies?
Vlasic Levshunov
Korchinski Rinzel
Kaiser Murphy?

Avs fan coming in peace... because we want Jones haha.

I agree he's an underrated dman due to his contract, but I still don't really see the benefit of the Hawks keeping him. Maybe for one more year? But if there's a lot of interest and a good deal to be made while he's playing his best hockey, why not strike while the iron is hot?

Two months without Jones won't do anything to the Hawks' season. Next year, you'll have Rinzel, Creiver, Levshunov battling for spots and you have all off-season to sign/trade for another veteran RHD (Avs will send you Manson).

Even next year I'd guess the Hawks will be a bubble team at best with or without Jones. Many of your best prospects are still outside the NHL. Once they make the jump and mature, Jones will be pushing his mid-30s and his play likely declining. I just don't see how keeping Jones makes sense for the timeline - just gotta be a little more patient.

I’d trade Jones and get a good return but wouldn’t trade him for nothing, and also acknowledge trading him would make the Hawks a worse team in the short term.
A good return means what to you? A 1st and prospect no retention? That’s where I’m at. But that’ll never happen based on the perception of Sethy

Manson, 2027 1st, Ritchie
For
Jones and a 2nd

We don’t need to trade Jones nor is it a positive move for the team in my mind.

The Avs fan is right

Jones trade isn’t “striking while the iron is hot” his value is low as hell right now. Evidence: not even a sniff at making team USA for this tournament. Not even in discussions.

Very reasonable.

Why can’t more people feel this way? Lol

I too would trade Jones, but also understand that he doesn’t suck and DOES make Chicago a better team today.

It’s not that hard. Some of the Seth Jones rhetoric will always be nonsensical to me.

It’s not one or the other bruv it’s a bad contract signed for way too long.

And cherry picking easily skewable stats to make him look better than he is doesn’t magically turn him into a top 5 RD.

Would you say Morgan Geekie was a top player in 2020 after all his per game stats were other worldly 🤡

without Seth jones and Murphy, walk me through what happens in your mind over the next few years that gets the Hawks D to a competitive level. Are Lev Rinzel and Korch all going to be top 4 2025? 2026? 2027? What happens if they aren’t, give me a list of defensemen you’d sign. Or which of our forward prospects you’d trade for what defensemen.

I am not anti trade Jones. But he does not require retention and he does require good assets back. Because in the real world the Hawks are bargaining from a position of strength. They don’t need to trade him. They have 37 million in cap space.

Cherry picking stats? Easily skewable? They are like the two most basic stats and jones has a plenty big sample size that even includes an injury that he sucked coming off of.

Nice try tho.
