Shaft's point (I think) is that maybe Foligno has done all of those things already... so what? What does it accomplish?

You can't just change Jones's disposition. The guy is set in his ways. Nothing Foligno can say or do will fix that.

Was Nick supposed to threaten Jones with a gun? Was he supposed to tell Seth that he'd burn his house down if he acted out? That he'd go and tell Seth's mother (a real Karen type) that her kid was misbehaving and needed to be grounded?

You can't do anything other than to tell that player to act like an adult. If they don't, it's not on the captain. Or the coaches. Or the management (besides the ones that brought him in).

Foligno has seemingly done a great job at helping welcome new players to the team, which there have been a lot of in recent seasons. He says the right things and is a consummate professional. That's what he brings as a captain. He's not beating the shit out of his teammates that are dissatisfied being here, that's not what being a captain is.

I remember stories of fights at practice during the Blackhawks dynasty days. This is something I would have done as a captain if a guy wasn't pulling his weight or being a problem.

i don't understand how in the first reply you explicitly acknowledge that "we don't know" what exactly foligno did or did not do, while in the second you assert that it "seems" he actually did nothing at all. on the basis of what? it "seems" to me that there is exactly as much indication that he tried to say something to deal with jones as that he didn't.

Foligno was CBJ captain before maybe he knew not to go that far. Jones didn't react very mature when home fans boo at his performance.

There's a big difference between Toews' role with those teams and Foligno's role now. The entire culture was different back then. We were the team everybody wanted to go to. We were what Florida - who Jones demanded to be moved to - is now, but probably even better.

The only players that might've wanted to be moved back then were guys that didn't have much of a role (#FreeMorin), not guys like Seth Jones that had a lot bigger of an impact in the locker room.

It's made even worse by the fact that there was a legit chance that Jones would've been stuck on this roster for years. You can't just go burning bridges with him and then he never leaves because nobody else wants him.

It was just a tough situation. Glad his ass is gone.

I don't disagree, but those were amazing teams with multiple HOF caliber players. They had something to play for, and the team was good enough to make the sacrifices worthwhile.

The SJ Hawks were the worst Hawks teams I can remember, and I've been a fan for 30+ years. I think that SJ is selfish player and the last type of guy you want on a rebuilding team. Thank god KD was able to move him along and get value for him.

Analogy I would use was Roger Dorn in Major League. Guy coasting after cashing in on a big deal who was terrible example for the kids.

"Not bad" certainly isn't enough for the top goalie prospect, a 1st round pick, and paying him $7M a season. They didn't acquire him to be a third pairing guy.
