Here's what I posted on a Zubov thread at another board and it's apropos here and so it's late and I'm lazy and so I'm going to copy and paste it here on this one:

I kind of agree with this as fan of his but one could easily question whether or not is Zubie really a Hall of Famer in the first place?

Looking at his career #'s, it really doesn't scream Hall of Fame to me and trust me I love me my Zubov as much as anyone.

16 years...152 goals...619 assists...771 points in 1068 games.

An average year for Zubie was 11 goals...47 assists....58 points. Very good #'s but is it HOF #s?

He has his name on the Cup twice and was an all-star just once which I was a bit surprised about.

In the playoffs he had 72 points in 114 games...pretty impressive for a defenseman for sure.

I dunno, tough call. Personally, I think he's an easy call for the "Hall Of The Very Good". I'm just not sure I think of Zubov as a Hall of Fame type player in the company of a Leetch, Bourque, Chelios,Park,Potvin, Robinson...etc...etc.

I guess as much as I love Zubov, I don't put him in those other Dmen I mentioned neighborhood's. I'm not going to lose sleep nor complaining about it as I'm very happy about Zubie getting inducted but I could see the argument that he also might fall a bit short of HOF and this is a bit surprising he even got in if that makes sense.

This is a pretty weak HOF class let's be honest as Wickenheiser is probably the most deserving of all and so with that said any other year, Zubie likely is still waiting for the "call?

What a parade of losers we've brought in to replace Zubie, and never accomplished that goal: Driver, Schneider, Hatcher, Berard, Malakhov, Poti, Ozolinsh, Rachunek, McCabe, Redden(!), and there's more...as Joe Boningo would say, "Oh the pain!"

I have to agree. I don't see Zubov as a Hall of Famer.

He’s top 20 all time in defenseman assists, points, and points per game in both the regular season and the playoffs. He’s got more points in less games than Scott Niedermayer.

He was a top 10 defenseman for a decade and a half and is one of the best Russian D’s Of all time.

He’s a Hall of Famer.

I'd say he had Hall of Fame talent. But the results... Maybe not. But I'm happy for him anyhow. Certainly no complaints from me.

As a Ranger fan I’m happy for Zubov, but he is a borderline HOF’er at best. Carbonneau does not belong. Wickenheiser is by far the most deserving and probably the only one who should be in. It’s the HOF not the hall of very good!

Objectively, for a guy who never got enough credit over the course of his career, I think he may have gotten too much compensation on this one.

Excellent career, but I don't know if he has a HOF resume. He's borderline. When I say he deserves it, I mean he deserves the recognition.

That said, he's one of my favorites all-time and I'm not throwing it back!

Then again, you have a point here.

Although I never really thought of Niedermayer as a Hall of Fame talent. Another excellent player, but the only thing he did at a historic level was end up on stacked teams constantly.

If he's in, Zubov is in.

Niedermayer was a way better player than Zubov, and their play styles are barely comparable.

Zubov got in the same year Carboneau got in.

I thought there was talk of Zubie joining the Rangers in some capacity. I guess not.

Happy he got it in. I think it's borderline deserves to be there.

As the NYR, The truth is the guy really wanted out of NY. 2 seperate incidennts factored largely for him. In December of 1994, Zubov was also Maced in the face by a group of teenagers. He his wife and his newborn son were walking through Brooklyn or the Bronx and encountered the wrong group of kids. I think he said something to one of them and the kid took out a can of mace and sprayed Zubov in the face. Crazy story at the time. Not more then a month after that, the Kevin Stevens incident happened. Zubov and Stevens got into it behind the Rangers net. Stevens beat up on him pretty good. Those two incidents pushed him over the top. He and his family wanted out of NY. Unconfirmed was a rift between he and Messier. It was Mark's room at the time. If you wern'tt in, you were out.

After the scrap Zubov felt like his teammates should have done the dirty work. Or should have at least jumped in. He was traded the next year.

Ironically, rumors swirled that Mario had wanted Zubov gone. Sergie somewhat debunked those rumors Zubov thought it was more of a hockey trade.

Interesting. I didn’t know any of that. I can’t imagine Zubov held the on-ice stuff against the team on that particular play. Graves was trying to jump in it seems. (And to be fair, Stevens didn’t really cross any lines there, might have bumped Richter, but it was minimal).
But maybe the perceived lack of support was a symptom of something deeper?

I think time and space has kind of eased off some of the concerns that existed with Zubov at the time - defense, fitness, mental makeup, etc.

To his credit, it was when he was almost traded out of Dallas to his fourth team in nearly as many years that the light bulb came on. And from there, he maintained it for a good long while.

Hockey was better.

Also, I'm glad you brought up the fact that he got bounced from the Penguins too because it shits on the "no respect for his offensive game" argument people use for why he was tossed from the Rangers.
