and that’s very bold. Tampa has two players that are perfect for the Avs. Cirelli and Cernak. The Avs have 24mm in cap space. They’ll be great next season and have all their 2021 picks. Losing a low 1st round pick plus some low mid round picks to steal Cirelli or Cernak is just fine with them. The Avs purposefully didn’t trade away 2021 picks at the deadline to be able to use the offset sheet. And Tampa has two guys that are perfect for this. Just perfect. The. C19 hit and it made even less money available for Tampa to play with. Ouch.

good team, low tax state, key role. If you think Cirelli or Cernak leave millions per year on the table to take a crappy deal from Tampa’s GM. That is exactly the kind of cockiness that plays into Sakics hands. He’d love to use the OS and just watch 2021 picks go the other way.
I mean anything is possible but I'd bet many said the same about Point and Kucherov among others. Tampa's been in tight spots seemingly every off season for years now and somehow they keep pulling a rabbit out of their hat. Also, seems like fans on HF talk about offersheets way more than there actually used/signed.

No GM would move the 14th and a dman that is going to be just as good.
EDM should not be trading away Broberg or Bouchard. They will be just as good as Sergachev. I could see something like 14th plus another prospect. I would be more interested in Cirrelli I think it is spelt that way
I see you’ve got your crystal ball out.

Let’s wait and see if Broberg or Bouchard can make it in the NHL first, hey? For all we know Bouchard could be nothing more than a #3 power play specialist. Broberg might just top out as second pair

This is silly talk. You have no clue what Broberg will be at the NHL level. If Broberg ends up as good as Sergachev the Oilers will be thrilled beyond belief, but there are no guarantees. Sergachev is a proven--and he's still a baby. He would be a top-pairing D tomorrow on the Oilers and feast on their PP.

EDM should not be trading away Broberg or Bouchard.
For an older defenseman who is at the tail-end of their prime, I absolutely agree. But for a proven player who just turned 22 in June--you absolutely trade either of these prospects and a pick. If the Oilers pass on a trade like this, they deserve to keep underachieving.

Although Oiler fans have every right to highly value Broberg and Bouchard as top prospects no one knows for sure what ceiling they'll have at the NHL level. So to a degree the above poster is correct.

I would counter with these points:

1. Sergachev is an RFA. How much is he going to sign for?
2. Sergachev was on the 2nd pairing behind Hedman (Conn Smyth winner) and Shattenkirk, and on the 2nd PP unit.
3. Sergachev is only 22 so he has room to get better, but he'll be asked to replace Klefbom on the top pairing. Is he ready?

So to ask for the 14 OA and Bouchard is a big demand for Edmonton. While both assets are question marks there are a few questions about what Sergachev will bring. Lastly the money involved has to be a concern for the Oilers and Ken Holland in a flat cap world.

Also Oiler fans, I'd say the very real threat of offersheets to Tampa Bay players is matched by Klefbom's injury, so no advantage goes to the Oilers for that.

The only thing that he's proven this far is that he can produce modest offensive results on a top end team playing sheltered minutes.

Development very rarely occurs in a straight line. So I'm having trouble understanding how people can call this player a top pairing defenseman at this point.

No doubt this is a player clearly ahead of Bouchard in terms of development. But there's no certainty that Sergachev thrones in a role where there's increased competition and lesser support.

This is an extremely negative look, based on situational play. Sergachev plays on the 2nd pairing because the Bolts are absolutely loaded with veteran, rock solid D--including a Norris and Conn Smythe winner in Hedman. When Hedman got hurt against the Flyers in the Round Robin--guess who jumped into his place immediately? Mikhail Sergachev. This kid is an absolutely horse. Use your eyeballs and watch him play--he's a stud. Big, sturdy, strong as an ox, skilled, with a booming shot. He's not even in his prime yet and he'd be the best overall defenseman on the Oilers tomorrow.

Hey, why not see if Okposo has something left in the tank? Or maybe Justin Abdelkader just needs a change of scenery! :sarcasm:

Anyways, I'd rather keep Sergachev overall. I just want something to happen soon so I can start figuring out who exactly I'll still be able to root for when the season starts up.

It's not really a negative look, it's an observation based on his deployment throughout his ELC. Saying he'd be the best defenseman on Edmonton's roster is a pure assumption based on your eyeballs. Looking at Edmonton's current D unit, I'm not even certain there's a LD there to compliment his game. We don't exactly have a Hedman or a McDonagh.

The deal actually makes some sense. Sergachev will want 6M so I’m not sure how the Oilers fit him in. Kiss their 1st and a good prospect goodbye to get rid of Neal and Russell.
Neal and Russell have very different values. Neal is a pay to take contract. Russell is only making 1.5 million and is a solid bottom pair defenseman. Somebody will want him.

Sergachev is a lefty--plays the left side. Put him on the top pair immediately instead of Nurse.

If the proposed deal is Bouchard and 14 + for Sergachev? Maybe I’m too high on Bouchard, but if I was running the Oilers I wouldn’t do this deal. It makes them better next year and possibly 2022, but likely worse every year after. It means more trouble in the expansion draft, plus whatever young good ELC forward they draft at 14 this year will be tipping the scales by then. It’s not a dead certainly that Sergachev would shine in a more pronounced role away from Hedman either.

Doing Bouchard or Broberg plus the 14th just creates too many issue for the Oilers. Cap and expansion.

He just didn't include the other pieces in the deal. Bouchard, 14th and Lavoie for Sergachev and one of their dumps( Johnson, Palat or Gourde)

Goes against Holland's philosophy of not mortgaging the future for the present, but heck me if this doesn't solve two of our glaring issues. Losing Bouch and gaining Sergachev is not mortgaging anything imo, but the pick is. Palat slots right in with McD or Gourde slots in at 3C albeit not cheap. "Cap dump" but totally not. We would have to try hard to make cap room ourselves

I've seen expansion mentioned a few times who is Edmonton protecting? I see McDavid, Draisaitl, Yamamoto, Nurse, Klefblom, Bear so far. RNH is a UFA so you could expose him. There's still spots open for 2 more if you go 8 skaters.

Tampa probably will consider everything including legit blockbuster offers for Serg and to be fair, Bouchard and a first is not the worst basis for a deal I’ve seen here but this would certainly not be a deal Tampa is itching to complete anytime soon. Bouchard is a quality prospect who has warts. Brilliant passer and incredibly smart mind in the offensive zone but the skating questions are legit. He lacks the dynamic qualities that make Serg such a force when he’s at full tilt. But he’s still a really good prospect so at least this is not awful. Still think if it came down to it, Cirelli is more replaceable than Serg so you deal him first if you have to (for some great assets).

But none of this Serg/Cirelli talk until the Cup champs....underline that because this is clearly not an organization run by dolts...have explored all other avenues including dealing the like of Palat, Gourde and TJ. Palat is a great player and there will be a market for him. Gourde and TJ could walk into the top 6 in a majority of the teams in the league and be 50 point guys. Pricey yes but that will submerge their value and in bigger roles that price point won’t look as bad. People act like GMs aren’t going to throw silly money at UFAs this off season because of a flat cap and pandemic. I feel like that is overeating the fiduciary judgement of professional sports team management.

Tampa has so many other ways to make cap room. Don’t know why they’d trade Sergachev unless the return is to good to pass up.

TB isn't trading Sergachev. I think we would lose Cernak and Cirelli as a pair before we gave him up.

Johnson, Gourde, Palat or Killorn will all go before they touch Sergachev. Cernak and Cirelli are good young (affordable) guys to keep.

The only problems with that is that those guys will have to wave their NTC/NMC, other teams want those guys or can afford them.

Logically the moves Tampa might have to make to keep the core together is moving Sergachev and/or Cirelli. I think holding on to Cernak is the smart cheaper move. Also think that Sergachev can recoup the most/best assets to keep the core team together.

Top-2 and Top-4 D-men are very precious assets. McDonagh is not getting younger.
