Talk about a terrible post. Explain to me why Sergachev = Drai is terrible please. Imagine the center of the ice looking like this...Chucky/Drai/Danault/Mitchell. Having Chucky and Drai up the middle would be the best the Habs had in years! Trading away Sergachev sucks and will leave a hole but it's not the end of the world if you can address the 2nd line center. Weber/Petry/Beaulieu/Juulsen is not a bad top 4 (the projected future of course).

Oilers get Sergachev and he looks pretty impressive on that young core. I'm a huge fan of Sergachev too but you have to give to get in any trade.

Explain why an NHL team would ever trade a young, big 2C with 1C potential for a prospect, unless that prospect was a generational talent? I like Sergachev as a prospect well enough, but high level prospects aren't the same as high level NHL talent. At all. Draisaitl is simply not available for prospects.

Big pass from Edmonton.

Sergachev could be the next Erik Karlsson or PK Subban.

He could also be the next Brian Lee or Thomas Hickey.

NHL GM's don't take that kind of gamble with big 21 year old centers with a 50 point season under their belt and potential through the roof.

I won't get into the details of the young players in the trade, but I highly doubt Pleks would get a 2nd, considering his contract, age and production.
But I'm sure someone will tell me he was top 30 in Selke voting 3 years ago or something...

So, you're an expert on contracts and player evaluation. I'm sure Babcock has your phone number in case he needs your precious advice.

I always thought the Oilers really needed a player like Plakanec, especially now that they have McDavid.

It would take the pressure off of McDavid a little and let him focus on scoring goals and Pleky could play the hard minutes that this team needs.

He's so solid in PK and in late game situations with a goal lead.

If the Oilers can get another solid defenseman that can transition well and a solid defensive foward like Pleky to play hard minutes and tight situations, I feel the Oil would win a lot more games and surely make the playoffs.

Let's wait till the trade deadline and see what kind of year the Oilers have. Watch for Serg at the world juniors. His stock will rise quick

I threw Plecky in the deal and that helps the Oilers for two years. I'd like to see him play with Lucic!

I cant see how this helps Edmonton

It is a win for MTL on both fronts.

They get a 2nd for an aged, non-producing forward
They also get someone who is a bonafide young NHLer, for someone who appears to be good, but a few years away.

It doesn't help Edmonton.
You need to keep Sergachev, as the key Dmen you've have had for years, will be hitting twilight soon-ish.

Yes, because I claimed to be an expert.
I 100% apologize for expressing an opinion on an internet forum that differs from yours (the true expert)
Shame on me.

Last season people on your board said he would go for a 1st.
I would be wary of handing over a reasonable draft pick. for someone, who isn't doing it anymore.

He WAS very credible at one point. Not at 34.

I don't think the Oilers will get rid of Draisaitl, he is too young and they don't know his full potentiel yet, but RNH could be a possibility.

RNH plays actually in the 3rd line, I don't think it's a good fit personnly, He clearly is a top 6, not a 3rd center.

To EDM:
Plekanec
Noah Juulsen
1st pick 2017
2nd pick 2018 from CHI

To MTL:
Ryan Nugent-Hopkins
David Musil
3rd pick 2017

Plek is worth way more then a 2nd

Vermette brought a high end prospect and a first

Hanzal looks like he might bring back the same

Plekanec is a better player then both. Out produced them
Both every single year

Not to say that this trade would happen just speaking of plekanec value

Those were pending UFAs.
Pleks still has this year and next at a bloated 6 mil and he's off to a terrible start on one of the top teams in the league.

Not this season.
Hanzal and Pleks both have 5 pts, the 7" taller Hanzal is also 5 years younger, and producing the same on the polar opposite team of the Habs. 2x the goals too.

Vermette also is a bit bigger and has 8 pts, on a possession black hole team.

I don't doubt your word, but its in the past.

Whats a clear tier? 3 years of development?. Plus factor in the other part of the trade and it makes it closer. Of course Drai is considered more value due to the one year in the NHL last year. Heck Sergachev almost made it in his 1st year as a 18 year old. Drai has more value but it's not a far stretch

Actually, it's not that cut and dry. They're both very young (Sergachev just turned 18) and have a lot to prove to claim elite status.

I think both will be great on their respective teams. I wouldn't trade either player.

You my friend have obviously not watched Serg play, not saying LD is worthless....but your comment definitely is :help:

You guys are just being complete homers.

1. Yes the extra 3 years of development matters, Draisaitl already has a 50 point season under his belt.

2. Draisaitl made the NHL as an 18 year old but what does that really matter in terms of long term projection?

How can anyone equate Sergachev to a near equal at this point? It is almost laughable, not saying he's not a good prospect, but he's not on the Drai tier and I don't know how you can argue it

Neutral fan here, I completely agree with this post. There is no way Oilers give up LD for a prospect. Serg is a decent prospect without question, but anyone thinking he lands the Habs LD is dreaming or heavily drinking.

Easy pass from Oilers.

I could see the Oilers being more interested in this trade than the original proposal.

Hanzal is 4 years younger and you take the last 16 games and count those only

Just last year plekanec had at least 12 points more then both

So galchenyuk being a point per game player this year means he's worth that? Come on.

The point is the value is there be it next year or in the summer

Its ionly 16 games Into the season l expect him to get up to 40-45 point this year regardless

And when I mean his value is such it's all depending on when he gets traded

If a team were to get him in a player for player trade now or multiple player trade.. They can turn around next year and flip him at the deadline for said package

Plekanec is the sort of player who gets traded to a Cup contender who needs a dependable 3C this year. EDM is probably a couple of years away from being a Cup contender, and they sure as hell don't need a 3C.

Maybe Plekanec should get traded to MTL?

If EDM is going to acquire a Dman it will be a Dman who can play, and play well, right now, with no babysitting required. They don't need more young D.
