I like how he had to edit to twice.

Then it said “With help from above”
Now it says “With help from Gaudreau in Heaven”

Why he felt the need to include any reference to the death at all is beyond me.

He shouldn't have posted it. The edits don't help him. Once it was out there, the best thing he could have done was just delete it and when called out, he could have said, "That was stupid of me. I'm sorry I did it

What I don't think he meant is "because their leading scorer from the last two seasons passed away, they will be the worst team"

That last interpretation is how I read it and didn’t think twice about it; didn’t consider your first reading of it until you said.

All that said, you’re likely right, as very few are that tone deaf.

I don't think that was clear at all from the first phrasing. It was a dumb think to post. I don't think saying so is overreacting.
