Most of the team lives in the west end, Carlton place etc. There is no chance Ottawa stops using bell sensplex, especially with the high end sports training/ rehab center attached.

Millionaires can usually afford to move downtown. I'm sure a bunch of players would join Turris in Westboro or move to the Glebe. Or even one of the premium condos that would be built near the arena.

What a brilliant move by the sens. This is exactly how this team is going to put down roots all over the region and really make itself an integral part of the community. Yes, our community includes those living in Gatineau. Hope it works out.

Good lordy please make this happen so Ttracer boycotts the Senators....please...

Fully agree with this. Not only is it unbelievably short sighted, it's also completely illogical.

My guess is most players would live on Zibi.

Didn't Spezza live on Island Park? There are some gorgeous houses there. Plus it would be like 5-10 minutes away from Lebreton.

Certainly going to help get a west-end bridge over to Gatineau side! Its a great idea to cement the wish that this be a national capital team, not just an Ottawa team.

Yup. My nephew went to Montessori school with his daughter Nicki. My two year old nephew would notice Spezza on the ice and say Nicki's dad...

Spezza got my nephew a signed Karlsson card too.

Also Murray would frequent the Starbucks on Carling and Woodroffe. Saw him all the time. Turris is always in Westboro with his kid and dog too.

People from Ottawa need to realize it is a small city and has less traffic and congestion then pretty much any NHL sized city.

NHL players travel to cities all over North America. Virtually none of their commuting to the arena for practices or games would be done during prime rush hour. They can and do live anywhere in the city... And it is simple and easy to get anywhere if they live in Orleans, Westboro, Gatineau, Manotick, Carp... Wherever.

Acting like their only option is living in Kanata Lakes because they are lost if they live more then a 5 minute drive to the arena is silly and absurd.

They hate driving their luxury cars, sports cars and SUVs so much that 25 minutes is too much. They can't afford all that extra gas.

The Sens could practice anywhere in the city and it would be no big deal whatsoever.

Ottawa by no means is a small city now as for congestion less then every other city fact is Ottawa is in the top ten for worse congestion in North America but the other fact is Ottawa is the largest city land wise in Canada bigger then citys like Toronto.

Can or would Gatineau be able to support both the Olympiques & an Ottawa AHL farm team? Are they not having trouble now supporting just the Olympiques? Why wouldn't the Habs have moved their team to Gatineau instead of down east if there was a market for AHL hockey there? Another Sensplex across the river is a good idea for the community & would be supported but I'm not sure moving the farm team would work. I also like the idea to help the city build a new arena for the Olympiques by soliciting for funding but I doubt Melnyk will pay for it, he still hasn't paid for the arena he has now.

The reason support has been weak for Gatineau is in large part of the rink people just don't want to sit in a old rink thats falling apart.

Thank you :handclap:

People in this city make such a big deal about driving more than 10 minutes it's ridiculous. To go from as east as Orleans gets to as West as Kanata gets takes 35 minutes...I have friends in Toronto who think of my commute from Orleans to downtown (17 minutes) as a cakewalk! When I was visiting a friends in Maryland, to go from the suburb to anywhere worth going (downtown, restaurants etc) would take at least 25-30 mins, and according to him no one there really bats an eye to it.

As annoying as some of our infrastructure is in this city, it's not as bad as people make it out to be.

As for sponsoring a new arena complex in Gatineau, I think it's a great idea. It'll go a long way in solidifying our presence and expanding the fan base.

Ottawa has many issues such as only one major highway and a light rail system that should have been built 30 years ago.

Ottawa needs bridges over the river and to stop transports from going through downtown.

Light rail is not something needed for 30 years. Despite some problems with public transit here... It is among the best for a city of it's size in the world. Which is not a reason not to improve it... But most US cities of our size or bigger barely have a public transit system.

I know many Ottawans want the TTC or Montreal transit systems... But that is wholly unrealistic.

I've been there on many occasions, it's a rink with a lot of history but your right it's old & definitely needs an upgrade or a new rink built. But are the Sens talking about a new Sensplex or are they talking about a new arena for the Olympiques? The Sensplex are not built for junior or AL hockey they are built for practices & beer league hockey. What they need is a new arena that sits 5,000 to 10,000 people.

The transit system we have was set up for a population og 600,000 now ere just below a million 1.3 if you include Gatineau and no people don't want to be like Toronto.

4-6 K probably would suffice. If modern with Suites and stuff. You get possible scarcity and demand if the AHL QMJHL teams are very good... And you don't overbuild. You have the potential to attract music and entertainment acts as well. Too small for the CTC. Also in French... Would be a great venue in Gatineau. If it was at the same location as The Bob it would be very central and close to the highway for Ontario residents... And Gatineau and Aylmer.

You might want to research the use of public transit for cities 1-1.5 million in North America and the world and see which cities have a better system and higher ridership...

And I support better public transit... But there is no reason to bring up hyperbole.

This is a business decision for the Senators, not a subsidy. They would get the land from the City of Gatineau basically for free, and would have guaranteed ice rental from the City of Gatineau for a set number of hours per year. After that, they rent out the rest of the ice at market rate, collect food and beverage money, etc., all while solidifying the Senators brand in the region.

This is cool. I hope something can be worked out.

*If* an arena happens at Lebreton, I could see the Senators holding some open practices at this potentially new Piques arena to stimulate fan interest on the Hull side.

It could also help turn a few of them into Sens fans...

Would be nice if the new arena name is sens related, assuming most of the olympiques fans are habs fans when it comes to the NHL it would be nice to have that over them in an argument.

Gatineau is not Montreal. It's a suburb of Ottawa. There are Quebec-born players who consider the Sens their home-town team. We have fans who come across the bridge to support us, not just to sing Ole.

There's a lot of controversy involved in inter-provincial politics, even in sport. But those are people over there, no different than the people on THIS side of the river. I would be incredibly proud to see a joint project involving the Sens keeping the Olympique in the area.

I think they wnat to move there farm team to Gatineau

Yes, yes and yes!!

With TVA sport and RDS, Habs propaganda is in every household 24/7. Sens need to have an aggressive marketing strategy with the Qc side. Get involved!

There is an outside rink built by the Sens in Pointe-Gatineau. You cannot be more Gatineau than Pointe Gatineau. This is the root, the genesis of Gatineau 200 years ago and I love to see a huge Sens logo right in the heart of it. It’s awesome.

Anyways, it will take time but this side of the river will be Sens territory too.

You can already see the difference with Cyril Leeder’s approach. It’s too bad the organization wasted 10+ years during Mlakar’s tenure.

....imagine the 67s, Olympiques, baby Sens, and Ottawa Senators all in this region!

Man, I'm drooling...

And FYI, Aylmer<->Kanata, 45 minutes in rush hour traffic. The blockage is at the bridge on Aylmer/Lucerene (morning) or JAM Parkway/Island Park (afternoon)
