Was at the game tonight. Boys looked tired. Even Edmonton was pretty slow and McDavid quiet.
Anyways, losing patience with Hamonic.
He has his moments but overall not good enough and on ice for too many goals.

I wouldn’t get hopes up with Zub either. He was awful after coming back from his concussion. Big giveaway machine.

Regardless hard fought battle. They’ll get back it after the break I’m sure.

Leevi has impressed me. There are clear markings of an NHL goaltender, he is very refined for his age and seems to have the temperament you need to survive in the league.
Yes, I have mentioned a few times in the last two gdt (where's the Leevi thread ?) some real positive signs from the young tender. I hope he keeps playing well, could be good to have someone to replace Forsberg next year at a fraction of the price. Only goalie prospect for me right now that might have potential to become more than a career backup. Very calm, good composure and very good positioning. Couple very nice blocker and glove saves ... only thing I noticed that might need work is rebound control, but let's be honest we had vets in net that have been a lot worst than him the last few years. Be nice to have a solid tandem and someone we can trust when we give some nights off to Ullmark. Forsberg has been very hit and miss to me (too many miss).

Norris and Batherson have to be better. Particularly Norris. Have to be. 3rd and 4th lines have been better in this winning streak and that can't fly.

Kleven also struggled a bit and Sanderson wasn't as good as last game. Therefore that means Hamonic's mistakes show in the worst way.

Rest of the team played very good. Hamonic is healthy scratch on a team near us in the standing or number 6 defender. We are literally losing out on an effective RD AND Sanderson's ability being suppressed because of having to cover for Hamonic.

No, there's some games like tonight where we don't look like a playoffs team at all

You guys have a lot more endurance than I do, I haven't been able since day 1
I thought we looked like a playoff team tonight.

Not surprised at the outcome of this game with Perron, Amadio, Zub, Forsberg and Ullmark out at the tail-end of a 4 game swing on the road.

The week off should do good to the team mentally and physically. Hopefully that’ll solve some bumps and bruises and it would be great to have some bodies back here… Starting to look extremely thin at all positions.

Green says Ullmark's "back tightened up" so they took him out. Doesn't sound overly serious and you hope this is temporary. Perhaps it's a result of playing more games than he has for most of his NHL career.
It's from carrying this team around on his shoulders, while also dragging around those massive balls between his pads. Needs to give his back a little rest up.

What geniuses came up with a travel plan to have the sens yo-yo between pacific and mountain time zones for 4 games? Not surprised they didn’t have much in the tank playing less than 24 hours earlier in pacific time zone. Even with chartered air, that’s gotta be tiring especially with 4th game this week

Rest up boys. You deserve it

I thought we looked like a playoff team tonight.

We were "hanging on with them" defensively and our goalies made several key stops. But outside of a few sequences, we were not capable of creating much and struggled to connect several passes in a row. To their defense, they were maybe very tired from the traveling, etc.

We only had 3 HDCF at 5 on 5 (Oilers only 7). Including PPs, HDC were 15-7 for the Oilers. I think we got most of our chances in 2-3 shifts, nothing much outside of that

Missed the boat on Carrier.

Can't have too much "sleeping cap"

Zub 4.6 AAV : injuries
Perron 4.0 AAV : injuries and personal issues
Amadio 2.6 AAV : way too much for that kind of player, I prefer Gregor who only makes 0.85 AAV
Norris 7.95 AAV : he's worth more like 5.5 AAV now with all the injuries
Forsberg 2.75 AAV : another guy diminished by injuries, worth more like 1.5 AAV these days
Hamonic 1.1 AAV : not a huge amount but actually hurts the team

Pinto has been playing better recently but his start to the season wasn't worth 3.75 AAV. Giroux is getting there in age and isn't worth 6.5 AAV anymore. Sanderson is the opposite, too young and needs more experience to be worth 8.05 AAV, pairing him with Hamonic has messed him up to be fair.

I'd say there is about 18-19 M$ not being very productive/efficient actually. It's the same for most teams but good teams are not affected by this too much. Look at Tampa Bay for example, all their money spent is being put to good use except Moser who is injured. There's a factor luck of course.

IMO before defense we need an infusion of speed and skill in the forward group. Our scoring is very modest after our top-3 forwards and they're "off" at times. And yeah, we'd need to do anything to stop playing Hamonic.

They played a decent road game but you can’t have that kind of PP discrepancy against the Oilers and try to keep the game close.

I’m a little surprised we only got the one PP but what are you going to do?

Norris and batherson do not seem to play well away from tkatchuk
They need a linemate that helps create space for them.

Having said that Norris and Batherson were good last night imo. They haven’t been in general for a bit, but even with Tkachuk they weren’t producing much 5 on 5.

They’re inconsistent, Batherson runs hot and then cold and Norris is just game to game inconsistent.

They’ve gotta stop trying Greig with them, it doesn’t work. I’d rather see Cousins up there.

Yep, I wouldn’t split the Tkachuk- Norris- Batherson line at all. They have an identity and they know how to play together, they know where they are.

Norris particularly is not nearly as efficient when playing away from these 2.
And on the flip side, Timmy’s line looked way better, having some help.

Yeah we need to be a bit more disciplined. The high stick double-minor, the slash, and the puck over glass penalties were all very avoidable.

My takeaway from this weekend's games is that we have a viable back up for the future. Leevi's still young (in goalie years) and might not be ready this season but I'm am optimistic he can take over back up spot next year. Seeing Leevi get promoted should push Sogaard to be better, too.

I think our forwards are fine. I wouldn't make any additions up front. Hopefully when Perron returns, he'll bring some physicality to the top 6. EDIT: Just read the news about Perron's back. That changes my opinion.

On D it's a different story; IMO we need to add another element. Wasn't Dante Fabbro bouncing around on waivers a month ago? He's been solid with Columbus. Might've been a missed opportunity there for Staios.
