If Ottawa is smart they trade Giroux at the deadline. He is a pending free agent and he could probably fetch at least a 1st or a good prospect from a playoff team.

He can make a difference, he still has skills.

NMC. We know exactly how this plays out. He’d pick his spot and the trading team has to live with like a late second.

I am sure he would waive it for a playoff team. Sure he can pick his spot but you telling me he will say no to go play for Vegas or Florida? Semantics.

Good cap hit, signed for 2 more years after this, doesn't have trade restriction. Should be prime trade bait.

Idk what it’d take but for 3 years at under 5 mil I’d certainly be looking into that
Exactly.

I think the hold up is how much of a true hockey trade you can make if you're the Sens. A lot of contenders would likely be fine parting with a 1st + their best or better prospect, but I doubt they'd significantly subtract from the NHL roster, short of PLD/Laine-esque drama. But the Sens need help now and I think that's a tougher ask because the contract is most valuable to contenders.

Ottawa could use a RD can't they? C'mon Dougie waive that NMC!

They could try to do something similar to the Canucks with Horvat. Took the 1st from that trade knowing they wanted a change to the actual roster and then used it to acquire Hronek

Da Big Apple
they need an infusion of veteran leadership.

Kreider/Lindgren for Chabot/Pinto makes sense
no both teams
Rs not moving Kreider, and too much age coming back for Sens if Pinto surrendered

They also have Giroux, they have no need for Kreider, your team doesn’t want him either anymore. Sens pass
very small vocal minority 4-5 or so guys
not our board
not the team

Kreider for Chabot the starting point. Norris can't stay healthy. rangers already have that guy in Chytil and need a top 4 LHD.
1, no on moving Kreider
2, do not want Chab-meister

batherson for jiricek makes a lot of sense for both teams, no?
Not with Ottawa needing to get better now. This whole premise just doesn’t make sense for Ottawa unless there’s like the classic “hockey trade”. Ottawa’s not going to get better by subtracting one of their good players or making a lateral move

It's not obvious though, they're still so young especially given their 2 best pieces are their youngest ones. The entire off ice org was literally just completely overhauled, patience is a virtue

Ok il continue being patient, how many more Novembers do I have to be patient for with this core before some major changes happen?

Let’s really stir things up.

Calgary receives:
Josh Norris (7.95M AAV)
Shane Pinto (7.5M AAV)

Ottawa receives:
Nazem Kadri (7M AAV)
Rasmus Andersson at 50% (2.275M AAV)

Ottawa gets much better today, while saving ~6M against the cap to add further improvements (likely to find a 2/3C to add to fill the hole created). Really helps their push to get over the hump and start making the playoffs. Calgary gets much younger, but they take on a lot of risk. Calgary fills an organization need though adding youth at C, something they desperately need.

Edit: never quickly google contracts for posts, Pinto makes 3.75 x 2. Ottawa only gets 2.25M in cap savings.

FYI: Pinto makes 3.750, not 7.500

They don't look good. Look desperate but playing without a plan. I really doubt Green as a coach, hasnt shown that much from what I remember him to be.
