Hello sense fans

We have decided to visit Ottawa from Vermont this weekend when we saw the canals are open for skating and there is a Bruins game as well. Below is our loose itinerary, we are staying at the Business Inn near the golden triangle. Me, my wife, and kids 8 and 11.

Friday - Ski at Jay, Peak, Drive to Ottawa
Saturday - Skate on Canals / Bruins game / More skating
Sunday - Byward Market / Parliament / Museum / House of Targ
Monday - Canada Science and Technology Museum / Drive home

Questions on Museums: We can get into the Science Museum for free with a pass we have from the Fairbanks Museum in VT. Would the museum of nature be a lot like Science museum? Should we check out the art or history museum instead? I like that they are both in the same general area vs. the nature museum.

Parliament: I read there is a lot of construction going on. Is it still worth going in?

Am I missing anything else? Any events going on?

Thanks!

The Fairbanks Museum & Planetarium in St. Johnsbury, Vermont, is one of the best natural history museums I’ve been to, focusing on areas such as astronomy, meteorology, and natural history. …. If I remember correctly they had an extensive collection of birds that was incredible …. I would recommend that Museum to anyone traveling in the area, if that is your thing.

Unfortunately there isn't a direct affiliation between the Fairbanks Museum and any museums in Ottawa, Ontario… this something my spouse always checked before heading south of the border, as we had a membership at the Science and Tech museum here in Ottawa.

WRT the museum choice - the Museum of History has a very large room filled with totem poles and a view across the river of parliament. It's a pretty amazing spot, even if the rest of the museum doesnt interest you.

Two things I'd suggest:
1) when you skate on Saturday evening, plan to take your skates off when you reach the end downtown and walk around the area close to the NAC / War Monument / Chateau Laurier hotel -- walk all the way to the National gallery. There are Christmas lights up on the trees at the War Memorial and in Majors Hll park near the National Galley and they are very pretty, especially in the fresh snow. Also, there's a giant spider sculpture outside the National Gallery that is cool.

2) If you or your kids like airplanes at all, the Canadian Aviation Museum has a pretty good collection of WW1 and WW2 aircraft, as well as a couple of flight simulators. Maybe not as impressive as some of the equivalent museums in the US, but still worth checking out. It's not walking distance from downtown though, so you'd need to drive or Uber it.

EDIT - also be aware that some parts of the Byward Market have A LOT of homeless people, many of whom have substance abuse problems. So you may see some rough and tumble types.

You may want to consider which size of TV to purchase based on your viewing distance…. A smaller size may be the better option, and save some $

@Crosside According to this chart, an 85" ideal viewing distance is 8.5 feet, and acceptable up to 13.4 feet, so my scenario isn't unreasonable.

One thing to consider is getting the benefits of 4K. I think sitting at 13.4 feet is a little far and unlikely to be seeing those benefits at that distance.
