You need to start watching Seinfeld again and bump that thread in the entertainment forum

Screw your paper, besides the 4th is in two days: plenty of time

College is just about the only thing that doesn't give me anxiety.

You know what, looking back on my past it's funny

I was the same way: I never got stressed out over school but I've become an anxiety train wreck over the years

Then again, I probably could have done a lot better at it if I had experienced a little bit of healthy stress over it

You're so right...I didn't even get bored of that show, I already like it better than friends. I should have listened to HF as soon as everyone recommended it to me. Once my busy school week is doing I'm going to binge watch it so hard

... a bunch of stuff about Seinfeld...

Probably the one thing I miss most about being a mod is knowing what exactly certain people did in order to lose their avatar.

I'd always see someone suddenly without theirs, and I'd head on over to the Mod boards, aka "HFModsOnly" to see exactly the kind of shenanigans people would get into on these boards, haha.

Seinfeld is one of those shows that I could not get into because I did not care for that style of humour. Also, I love it when the person working the drive-thru at my local Tim Hortons is capable of speaking fluent English. That taint licker not only managed to screw up my dinner, but he also screwed up my coffee orders. Sad thing is that I did not realize it until I was at home and way too lazy to drive back.

I also purchased three games today, two of which were on sale. I got Diablo 3: Ulitmate Edition, Resident Evil: Revelations 2 and The Evil Within. I got all that for seventy dollars, thanks in part to a pair of trade ins.

I also have been up for forty or so hours and I am not tired at all. Gotta love that insomnia.

But that's just it — it starts with something seemingly irrelevant like coffee/beer specifications. Then it turns into something slightly larger, but still inconsequential, like pre-decided side dishes with your meals. Then it turns into a list of pre-decided meals... next thing you know, you're being told what to eat, what to drink, what to think, what to say... it's a slippery slope.

I'm not in favour of taking decisions away from people because, although the element of human error is much more pronounced when decisions are involved, the alternative is a society where we don't think for ourselves. And that genuinely frightens me.

Except I'm not talking about taking away choices, I'm talking about tonnes of extra choices being added in. I'm talking about the freedom to be able to tell them you don't care and them being able to deal with that. I think it's great if they're flexible and able to accommodate different people's wishes. But sometimes you just want a burger and a beer and you're not picky and would rather spend that time and mental energy on more important things.

If we're going to go down that speculative road of what it all does to society, then I think there is just as much danger in providing people with so much commercial choice - they begin to feel like it is their commercial choices that define them and cease defining themselves for themselves. It turns people into little princesses who feel like they always have to have things just their own exact way. It makes people less tolerant and more conceited.

Oh, the Main Boards Lounge?

Even worse. I'd rather lose my avatar. :sarcasm:

Maybe I'm doing a one month No Avatar No Regret initiative just like the link says...you should join it, get rid of that hideous avatar you have :sarcasm:

But yah, I'd imagine fans usually tend to prefer their own boards' OT thread since they know the people better than they would in the main lounge. Really though, the main lounge isn't that bad...it's basically like this one over here but a little more lenient.

Also as much as I piss off some sens fans on the main boards (not on purpose, I swear!), it's nice to be able to come in here occasionally and have a friendly conversation with a few of you lol...I can only talk so much about Ottawa-related stuff in the habs OT thread or the main lounge (they hate the city of Ottawa there for some reason lol).

On the other hand... not to sound like a bleeding-heart leftist, but those kind of things take jobs from people who might otherwise need them. Definite gray area for me.

I'd like to weigh in on this but this could be political...I think occupations should not exist for the sole purpose of employing people. I think they should exist because it can best be done by a human or it is not financially viable to replace humans with some form of automation. Instead of working as cashiers could those potential employees devote their efforts elsewhere, such as educating themselves and seeking something that rewards more than minimum wage? I guess it's different from my perspective because in the states anyone can get financial aid for college whereas in Canada my understanding is you cannot with poor or no credit and hence it is more difficult to work out of a hardship.

This is one reason people oppose the raising of the federal minimum wage. They see McDonalds or Subway as a summer job not a career. I think people should be prepared for changes - if your position is no longer needed you should have some skill that would be applied in a different capacity - but I also understand that in a society where you're worthless unless you produce then the society should ensure you have an opportunity to produce.

That's good in theory...but not in practice.

If you've been laid off and you have a family to support and bills, it's almost impossible to go to school full time and work. A lot of people simply can't 'educate' themselves out of a tight financial situation.

But yes, if a machine does the job better, obviously it makes sense to use a machine.

The real problem is globalization. That took most of the manufacturing jobs out of North America. At one time, that was almost a guaranteed job placement for people who (for one reason or another) couldn't get higher education. It wasn't high pay, but it was significantly better than minimum wage. Without the manufacturing sector, all that's left is retail and manual labor jobs at the bare minimum.

Even some of the retail is getting ugly, have you been to Gloucester Center lately ? The Old Navy is empty and in that strip I think only the Dollarama is open... they're all empty for lease, and then the Future Shop, in another area of that mall is also empty... Kinda looks like my old hometown of LaSalle Quebec when I go back, with stores and gas stations boarded up... kinda scary to see around here, since I just got laid off myself...

Really? I haven't been to that mall in quite a while. I used to go there for the Bulk Barn, but now there are a couple in Orleans and Rockland so there's no point making the extra trip further west. And with the Future Shop close by also closing (?) the only things left there to draw my interest is Chapters and the theatre.

Big Rig might help a bit with that.

As someone who grew up on over easy eggs, I fail to ever see the purpose of sunny sun up. I don't know why I would ever want that when I could just quickly flip that ***** over and have it be awesome.
