Well, it may get worse after this season if you think Holl made a lot of mistakes.

Klingberg is not known for his great decision-making and defensive plays.

As long as Klingberg puts up offensive numbers I don't much care; he won't be out against oppositions' #1 line like Holl was paraded by Keefe anyway so it won't be as bad

To be fair, what on Earth is anyone expecting from a 36 year old tank on skates? The guy is tremendously fun to watch when he is doing what he does best, but keeping up with the play is not that. He will be a part-time player on the ice and a good influence on the team overall. A net positive for sure.

I think he will be a net negative, just hoping I am wrong.

All I hope from him is that he can somewhat effective on the forecheck... don't expect anything else.

Who will be on our team? Brodie and Rielly?

That's the issue right now, based on the pre-season pairings, either Rielly/Brodie or Gio/Liljegren are taking tough assignments.

If we want decent d-man then we need cap space to do it; when I bring up cap space and the core 4 in relevant (Matthews, Marner, Tavares, Nylander) threads you jump on my posts to say they are well paid; and now you also want a solid d-man.

Leafs are going to have to trade some salary + picks to get someone of value.

There is a cap space. Dubas screwed the pooch by handing out ridiculous AAV and we are still dealing with the consequences.

Why was Sandin traded? I still don’t understand that one.

He'd still probably be a #7 this year... I don't think we lost much there, he is bad defensively and we barely have defensive D as it is.

We just signed a 4.1 million dollar D who needs to be sheltered.

That is enough cap space to get a solid defensive D.

We made like 15 million in signings this off season, our GM chose how to assign the dollars, it isn't Dubas' fault that there was no cap, cause there was.

I dunno. I think he could have been a 1.4 million version of Klingberg

Would have saved money and been better off signing Schenn

I am always back and forth here, I think Schenn got overpaid and it could look bad, but he was so good with Rielly, I'd be tempted to take the risk.

They were arguably the best pairing in the playoffs.
Soucy would have been nice but he seemed dead set on Vancouver

Leafs needed a puck mover and someone who can put up offensive numbers besides putting all the pressure on Rielly.

Keefe refuses to use Lily as an offensive D-man so Tre went out and got what was available given the cap space.

Simple logic:
Tampa has Hedman/Sergachev
Boston has McAvoy/Lindholm
Ottawa has Chychrun/Chabot
Florida has Montour/Ekblad

What did Leafs have? Rielly and who else to put up offensive numbers?

Gustafsson had more points than like half of those guys and was not gonna cost half as much as Klingberg, probably better defensively too.
