Simpson seems to not like quite a few people though

Also Simpson was gone from the Leafs long before Smith arrived, so I am not sure how Simpson working for the Leafs makes a difference

Was he? The way he spoke about him, I assumed he was still with the Leafs in 2015.

The videos I have seen of DJ Smith seemed very in-line with how Simpson described him.

We shall see but going with the cheapest and least experienced option is not a good first impression from an organization that should be desperate about getting people to buy-in.

Its his second proudest day as a GM. Nothing will ever top trading Stone though.

Dorion has said a LOT of stupid things over the years, but there's no question that comment takes the cake.

Dude was legitimately an hour away from dumping Stone for a horrible return, then Stone saved the day by agreeing to sign a last minute extension with a team he'd never played for, which got us Brannstrom instead of god knows what.

That was your proudest moment as a GM? For shame man.

from Simpsons Wiki page

"Simpson began working for sports radio station The Team 1200 in Ottawa in January 2012, where he co-hosted "The Drive" with Dave Gross, as well as the Ottawa Senators post-game broadcasts.[10]
In October 2013, The Team 1200 was rebranded as TSN 1200. Simpson continues to co-host "The Drive" show with Ian Mendes.[11]"

The Leafs didn't have a very talented D core. Their most talented guy was a Norris candidate.

You can system all day, but you can't cover up Jake Gardiner's glaring deficiencies. I'd be concerned if he had a talented group, but he just didn't. And the most talented guy he had was a Norris candidate.

I jsut find assistant coaches hard to evaluate with stuff like this. Was he operating under Babcock? Did he want to run a different system? Just so many unknowns.

So a guy known to not know how to properly teach defense is hired to coach a team that needs to learn how to play proper defense.

Yeah, this should go over well.

Simmer HATES Babs, almost like its personal, and I sure he learned his lesson from being extremely outspoken about the Caps GM, which was also very personal and pretty much made a fool of himself.

Based on his feelings on Smith, I assume that its because his personal Babs hatred.

I was looking at who he had as assistants in Oshawa, and in the Mem Cup year he had Eric Wellwood, who was the Flint Firebirds head coach this year. He's 29 years old. That's crazy.

I pretty much stopped watching the Sens after that day. I had only been loosely watching the games before the TDL (before this year I would say that I missed 20 games over the last 5 years), and it was that comment from Dorion that was the last straw for me.

I appreciate that he apologized for it afterwards, but imo, if you're that stupid that you can make a comment like that in the first place, your a lost cause and hopeless anyways.

Just wondering. Who truly know D.J. Smith has a coach here?

Like who can talk about his strength and weakeness as a coach?

Probably no one but when has ignorance ever stopped people from having an opinion.

He was the defensive coach in Toronto and would you just look at their defense... it sucked. :eyeroll:

Certainly his record in the OHL says he can work with young players with positive results. The Leafs D was trash anyway, as is Babcock, we'll see how he does when he's the head coach.

Well if you’re going to take a chance on a coach then now is an alright time to do it. High draft picks being the immediate prize.
