Over Here
That 3rd line has been playing some really good hockey the last few games. Tonight's game just showed how much chemistry they've developed.

I've liked Cousins game. I think I heard it on CIH podcast that the boys love him, he's very popular. I hope Green doesn't change that line once Perron returns. Perron can replace Gaudette in the top 6, Ostapchuck probably the one going down to Belleville.
I've never been happier to be wrong - I agree, the 3rd line has been good since putting those 3 together. I like the 4th line, too, as it is. But you're likely right that it's Ostapchuk to the AHL if/when DP returns.

Statement ****ing win.

Jensen was the star of the show, what an unreal performance by him. Wow.

Pinto was dynamite. You can see how he can take over a game against very good teams with his own structured and big-body game. He's untouchable, imo.

Although the Norris line didn't score, they played really, really well. Terrific defensively.

I feel we would enter another level if Stutzle's wingers get going, though. Gotta try Perron with him once he returns. And if Zub is really back, we are a comfortable playoff team.

All in all, after the first 10 minutes, Canes were neutralized and were nonfactor in anything rest of the game. Just a terrific performance.

This is why we brought in Ullmark, so that he can mask the remaining warts on the team and get us into the playoffs. The rest would decide how far we would go.

.961 in last 5 games and .913 last 10. Terrific, terrific stuff.

The statement wins now are unsurprising due to our play from the start of the season, it's just that the results are now finally showing, especially with timely and excellent goaltending. I feel the boys will just continue to impress. Keep going, boys.
Honorable mentions to Cousins/Amadio as well as they both had a hand in the production. That 3rd line has developed some solid chemistry.

He was a whipping boy for so many myself included for a little while. I'm happy he isn't turning over the puck like crazy. There's so much that goes into winning in sports. There are these subtle nuances where analytics cannot paint the entire picture. Like when a good makes a big save or when there is a big kill on the PK and other similar moments in a game.
Glad you mentioned the PK, had forgotten about that. Perfect the last 2 games, the changes they made are working.

One takeaway was the aggressive backchecking by the forwards.

They did a great job in making sure that rushes by Carolina didn't develop into truly high danger chances.
The forwards all chipped in. That shot Brady blocked near the end of the 3rd period spoke volumes. They're now learning what it takes to win. Want to see how they play tonight. If they've turned a corner, they'll play the same way. Here's hoping.

I would keep Gaudette in the top 6 as he is an opportunist scorer and deserves to play with high skilled offensive players; put Perron on the 3rd line with Pinto as Perron is two steps behind our top 6 skaters.
Ullmark stood tall.
Jensen's best game.
3rd line show (Pinto, Cousins, Amadio).
Chabot solid.
Rest of the team played well defensively.
Except for the 3rd period where the team was outshot 14 to 5. Plus Carolina had 2 penalties in the 3rd period which should have given the senators at least 2 "more" shots for each penalty. The team did not play well in the 3rd period.

Score effects against a better team on the road.

I hope the team plays a solid defensive-oriented game tonight and does not let the Penguins set up a shooting gallery on our net. Keeping the Shots against down is key to winning this game after playing yesterday.

Don't want the shot count to be too low: both of our goalies have struggled when spending too much time fiddling their thumbs. I'd prefer they focus on keeping shots to the perimeter and continue letting goalies see/track the puck. This should give them enough SON so they don't get cold. regardless of who's in nets, and stopping the shots they should stop. I know Forsey's stats the last game were horrible because there were so few SON, but none of the 3 goals were softies.

How do you get from 5 to 0?

Goal differential for the third period was +2.
On a PP a team usually gets about 2.5 shots on goal. The Sens had 5 shots total. The Pens had 2 penalties and 15 shots. Thus, the Sens had probably 5 shots on the two PPS and virtually zero shot at ES while the Pens had 15. That is poor!

Got confused I guess, or @Cosmix moved the goalposts.
1/2 the shots in last 3 1/2 minutes with goalie pulled.

The Kleven - JBD pairing continues to play well & shut down the opposition. They are still a work in progress, but seem to be getting better with each game. It will be interesting to see in the new yr as teams start ratcheting up the intensity to push for the playoffs how they do under pressure but so far look good at both ends.
