I'm really dying to go on a 'David Poile is the greatest mediocre GM of all time'' rant on the main board, but I'm waiting for a Predators thread on there calling for his removal or something about the current team slide and I haven't had any luck finding one lately. Maybe after tonight's drubbing there will be one.

@My3Sons is who I was referencing, but you aren't wrong.
No. That’s not my m.o. I’ll double down on the silly comments but gloating isn’t funny. It’s also just a moment. He is playing well and will have a great year if he stays healthy but I wouldn’t say he’s the third best center in the NHL. Maybe a top three two way center but guys like Jack or Eichel or McDavid MacKinnon are just so talented they don’t have to work so hard and can tilt a game.

Don't forget about Buffalo. I know, they missed an age of play off, but they really have talent and depth. Im not a fan of some of his picks, but their depth game them a lot of promise. And their defense looks promising too.

Interesting thing we have Luke and Simon and may be Holtz as future "upgrades", but Buffalo and Detroit have longer lists of future upgrades.
Thanks God we have Nico and Jack. No one have a duo of such a great centers. I like Stuzle and Norris, but Nico and Jack are just better.

eh I'm not really that impressed with Buffalo.

I recall you pumping his tires praying he'd fall to the Devils.
Yeah, and @Guadana felt the same way and deserves equal credit on Jake Sanderson.

The stat-obsessed draft "analysts" normally had Sanderson as a pick in the 10-20 range, which has to count as an epic argument against their assessment of amateur defensemen. Sanderson was pretty clearly the cream of the crop for 2020 defenders, and only Drysdale was close (thought Sanderson has widened the gap since the draft).

You are certainly looking right about Stutzle over Byfield, while I had that one backwards.

We both had Sanderson over Drysdale. I could not believe that some "experts" omitted Sanderson forom their top 10 lists or, in a couple of instances, out of their top 15. Hopefully the people who consistently misjudge draft-eligible defensemen due to an over reliance on statistics will finally learn from their constantly repeated mistakes.

Here's a quick 2020 re-draft, in my current estimation:

1 Sanderson
2 Stutzle
3 Lundell
4 Raymond
5 Jarvis
6 Guhle
7 Lafreniere
8 Perfetti
9 Drysdale
10 Askarov
11 Mercer
12 Rossi

I personally believe you cannot accurately re-draft until 7-8 years after the initial draft, but it's fun to take stabs at.
I prefer to put Mercer above Drysdale. And put Peterka in the top 12.

Sanderson is my top 1 player in the last 4 drafts. Its really hard to watch when players I really like, are playing for opponents. Really like Slaf too and was very happy for his first goal. Even today I feel good vibes when Sanderson made good things on the ice. Draft watching is making strange things with me.

I don't think he was as pessimistic in the more competitive years and so complimenting of/worried about our rivals, but one of my earliest memories of him was when he made either a post or a thread about how the Devils could have drafted Anton Volchenkov, but passed up the opportunity to draft him and took David Hale. David Hale was picked one spot behind Volchenkov. Ottawa took him one pick ahead of us, so I'm not sure if we traded back or what. I don't even remember if that was his point or not.

It just so happened that we signed Volchenkov not too many years later and for an unsavory contract and bought him out with one of the amnesty buyouts that they gave every team two of after the 2013 CBA.

He was also very critical of Conte, which he got a lot of shit for early on. I was one of the earlier critics of Conte and called for his removal as early as 2011 or so. And I didn't make many friends around here because of it. It was only a couple of years later before Conte was merely the punchline to a joke around here by the general consensus of this board, even the people who were still pro-Lou staying on as GM of the Devils.
he would predict for every single game in the guess the score thread that the devils were going to lose.

i think he was banned when mods clamped down on trolling because he would be here every day and post nothing but criticism of the devils and nothing but praise for every rival it was so obnoxious

It's like fantasy football. You're torn between rooting for your own team AND other players who inevitably play against your team. I remember when we won the lottery for Hughes, I was almost (ALMOST) disappointed we did because it took us out of a position to draft Byram who I am a massive fan of.
